182 years ago, President John Adams suggests establishment of a U.S. observatory. His critics declared such a measure transcended constitutional limitations.
13 years later, Hopkins Observatory was dedicated in Williamstown, Massachusetts
17 years later the U.S. Naval Observatory was authorized by an act of Congress
