Asteroid 700 Auravictrix, a totally unremarkable Main-belt body of the Flora family

The fughetta on "Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her" BWV 701 is a beautiful treatment of one GErmany's all time Christmas hits.

Oops, I'll have to go twice for penance.

701 - the number of posts in this thread when Arneb dealt '700' - because of my screwup.
And to set the world right again, 702 km is the distance record for a LoRaWAN packet.

U-703 has been missing since the 16th of December, 1944. It left Narvik in Norway, heading for a spot off the east coast of Greenland to launch a weather buoy, but was never heard from again.

Here's a subject worthy of the Grauniad: A study found that the Asterix comics up till 2011 depicted a whopping 704 victims of brain trauma as if it were funny!. This is a scandal. I mean how COULD they. Our youth will go through life thnking throwing someone through the air squashing them with a menhir is just no big deal right?, Ah, the times!!!

I think we can assume the weather was quite bad then?

AD 705, not a Balkan war this time but a Byzantine Civil War* with Justinian II using Bulgar troops to seize the throne.

*note the use of an indefinite article. Opinions differ as to how many civil wars they had.

Bruide son of Derile dies.

Conchobor son of Mael Dúin, king of Cenél Cairpri, was killed.

Yes, one could be led to believe flying could actually be elegant and classy fun when looking at these images. Of course, any economist can berate you how ridiculous 4 engines are on a "small" plane like this.

The year 709 saw the fall of Ceuta to Musa ibn Nusayr, who now controlled the entire Maghreb and prepared the attack on Europe. See you at Tours and Poitiers.

There'll be some exciting nake-eye astronomy to see in 1.281 million years when Gliese 710, an orange .6 Solar mass K star, passes the Sun at a minimum distance of about 13,000 AU, or .221 light years. It will shine as brightly as Mars at opposiion, and it will move in front of the stellar background fast enough so that its motion can be perceived during a human lifetime. Since it will likely stir up the Oort cloud, naked-eye comets will be frequent and gorgeous.

For the same reason, there might be the threat of a major impact event. I hope we'll have our act together by then.

I see your Pict and raise you two Langobards: In 712, the Langobards even get two new kings: Ansprant, who seizes power back from the regent (Cunnicpert) who had forced him into exile, only to die a short time afterward. His son Liutprant succeeds him.

714 is the number of home runs hit in American baseball by the Great Bambino, George Herman "Babe" Ruth.

The record was beaten by Hank Aaron, who started his career in the Negro American League. Eventually moving over to the same league where the whities played, he received a standing ovation when I saw him, despite being from the visiting team. Hank Aaron's record was subsequently beaten by Barry Bonds.

Selbach mac Ferchair rebuilt Dún Ollaig in 714 AD, having destroyed it in 701. It had also been burned down in 686 and 698. It was abandoned a little over 200 years later, and the site was refortified in the early 13thC.

Are we not going up the way here?

716: Arab-Byzantine Wars: Umayyad Caliph Sulayman ibn Abd Al-Malik begins the preparations for his campaign on Constantinople; he orders new ships be built in the port-cities in Palestine, Egypt & Ifriqiya. General Umar ibn Hubayra raids southern Anatolia by sea and conquers Lycia, where another Arab fleet joins him, and they spend winter. As the navy advances, Sulayman sends land armies into Anatolia, which settle at Caesarea. We've always been at war with Arabia.

717 is the littlest Boeing.
