Over this ridge lies either a horde of giant insects or a top-secret government facility that holds thousands of ordinary items imbued with mystical powers.

Oh, excellent guess - unfortunately, not correct.

The bugs clue refers to a more modern movie where this earthly landscape stands in for an alien world, and the government facility clue refers to a current television series.

Paul?
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

And that's the movie! The scenery is of the Badlands of South Dakota. Check the spoiler for the TV show.

Claimed locations for this film vary, this is one of them for the first scene and near the last scene.

Correct. Passo dello Stelvio is one of the claimed locations for the first scene (and looks right to me), the last scene is more likely to be in the Lesser St bernard Pass.

There is a scene from Goldfinger on the same pass, so I suppose I would have accepted that if given first.

It was a pure guess, based on the quantity of Chinese writing that I could see. Also, spinning it a bit to the right showed even more of it, and a sign that said "China Town 2011" - so, I thought, that'd be a decent first guess!

I spun the camera away from that sign, for that reason :)

Ha.

No camera moving required to identify this very easy one.

You climb this because it's there.

Of course, rocket boots come in very handy.

That's right! It's called 'El Capitan' and is in Yosemite Park. While trying to explain to Spock why he's climbing the cliff, Kirk says something like 'You climb the mountain because it is there.'

Your turn, HD
