Location, Location, Location

Inspired by the Movie Quotes thread, I thought it might be vaguely entertaining to try the same thing but with street views of filming locations.

Rules - can make those up as we go along, as is the case for most worthwhile pursuits. I would say that it probably has to be recognisable, though, rather than (for example) a nondescript empty field where a cardboard castle had been erected for two weeks for filming.

I'll kick off with this location from a well known television series.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

The Parochial House on Craggy Island.

Indeed, sir. You're up.

This is a test.

It should be Old College, Edinburgh.

But isn't.

Second go.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? First time I went from Lianachan's, second time I started by typing in "Edinburgh".

Third go.

If you're starting with an existing map, and then manoeuvring in using the controls, the subsequent change in location is in general not reflected in the URL, which still points to the original location.

This link might help.

Their second option is the way I've always done it - works a treat. It's how the link in the OP was created.

Test.

Thanks Lianachan, I'm not the best with technology.

Was it in Sopranos?

Yes it was, but I need the name of the establishment.

The real name, or the television name?

Either way, I don't think I can manage it.

The television name.

Ok, next question. My link has details of where it is, but Lianachan's doesn't. Any idea how I get rid of them?

I didn't search for the location, the way I'm guessing you did. I already knew where it was and located it manually. Maybe you could search to find it, then manually locate it in a second window and take your link from that instead? I'm guessing there must be a way to just remove the stuff on the left, though.

Don't know if it is possible. The URL you posted has such details, but even when I edit them out, as in this link, they still appear in the upper left as soon as I go to street view. My guess is, they just don't have a description in the database for the Father Ted location.

I knew the road it was on and started with that, that is what appears top left.

It's in your URL. However, I edited it out of the URL, and the address still appears in the left of the picture.

And if you switch to the map it gives you the real world name of the building, which is a clue to the type of establishment.

Obviously some kind of retail establishment, and no windows. Hmm, I wonder what that could be.

Yup, potentially useful clues.

:) :-)

Not for me in this instance, though, as I've never watched Sopranos.

The actor who played the manager of this establishment now has a new job, where he is a mafia boss who ran away to Norway.

Lillyhammer is interesting, but I can't really get into it. It is an odd sort of comedy, but then it is Norwegian so it might be funny to them or it might just be odd. Have you seen it?

Yes. We just got the fifth episode here, the one where
they killed Geir Elvis.
It definitely is odd.

I do like
the ease with which his partner at the bar stepped into a criminal lifestyle, with no apparent prior experience with such things.
I have seen most of the series, and it is surprisingly bleak in places. Great scenery though.
