I don't really get it either, but it's a cool movie that I'll watch whenever it's aired on our movie channels.
One of few movies I know of with giant rabbits. The only others I can think of are Harvey, and that perennial favourite around here, Sexy Beast.

The completely forgettable Masterminds. Stewart played a corrupt security agent for an upscale boarding school - held the students hostage or something, and then ended up being outsmarted by one of the students.
