Hmm, then the second graph could average height, the first one the mean difference between the tallest and smallest, say, 10 percent. China is ethnically homogenous, and its perople aren't tall, Scandinavians are the tallest perople in the world, on average, and their variations are somehere in the middle, and so on

You are correct on the second graph but not the first one. It has nothing to do with height.

I suppose Mactep nailed it (haha! See what I did there) a few moments before me.

Mactep, it's all yours if you've got something nice. You solved the light pollution graph first anyway.

Or something...

This is also a measurement of a segment of the population, but not the same as last time. And it is not the direct corollary either. It is not a measure of depth.

Boss, care for a hint? I am hard pressed to find something in the human anatomy that has a 100-fold size variation across the Earth.

Oh crap! I'm sorry. I completely forgot about this.

It is a different segment of the population than the first one. The opposite, as a matter of fact. It also deals with a length measurement, not depth as one might imagine. And it is of something located in the same anatomical vicinity as the last one. Though these come in pairs. Also, I believe these can be easily manipulated to increase the size and in some cases are surgically reduced for aesthetic reasons.
