Politics is to drill hard planks, slowly and with a strong arm, with passion and prudence at the same time.

(My own translation: Here is the original German:)
Die Politik bedeutet ein starkes langsames Bohren von harten Brettern mit Leidenschaft und Augenmaß zugleich.

Max Weber it is.

I was tempted to throw that quote at our esteemed Scottish Nationalists: To encourage them to enter the next round and resume play. Then I thought, who likes a smartass?

BTW, happy voting today!

Thanks! I enjoyed voting. Hopefully the "jockalypse" that the Tories are so afraid of is now underway.

My guess, Henri Bergson, wasn't serious by the way - it was a subtle Monty Python hint that I had no idea:
Michael Miles: What great opponent of Cartesian dualism resists the reduction of psychological phenomena to physical states?
Woman: I don't know that!
Michael Miles: Well, have a guess.
Woman: Henri Bergson.
Michael Miles: Is the correct answer!
Woman: Ooh, that was lucky. I never even heard of him.

Oooh, Pythons. How appropriate for tonight. I just played Election Night Special to my son, who had collapsed laughing at the dinner table when I told him of the super long super silly name with the gunshots in it. He, never having watched any election coverage and unable to understand English, found it only mildly funny. I predicted to him that this was going to change.
