20 years ago today, Dolly the Clone Sheep was born. She was the first cloned mammal and an all-out sensation. Visions of, depending on the point of view, hell on Earth, Brave New World, or Paradise on Earth, abounded.
Dolly died in 2002, aged 6, and early death for sheep. She died of a chronic lung disorder, and it is completely uncertain if the occurrence of that disease, infrequent in sheep, had anything to do with the way she was produced.

78 year ago today, my mum was born. She is going strong, she's still a beauty, and she had us over for coffee and dinner. Also, she is my shining role-model for what a doctor should be like. Schwauen-Power!

Happy belated birthday, Arneb's mum.

On this day in 1553, Wikipedia tells me that Lady Jane Grey ascended to the throne, becoming Queen of England, France, and Ireland. May her reign be long and... um... *keeps reading* oh...

Ok, the rules for succession to the English throne make about as much sense as strange women lying in ponds distributing swords.

July 22nd 2011 - Anders Brevik kills 77 people in two attacks in Norway. He's a white, right wing extremist though, so he's not a terrorist - to the BBC he's a mass murderer.

July 23 2015 - Scientists announce discovery of a planet in the Kepler-452 solar system that closely resembles Earth in size and orbit; the planet, Kepler 452-b, has a diameter 60% larger than Earth's but an orbit that is 385 days, close to Earth's 365 days

July 30th, 1966 - Fifty years ago, England won a football tournament of some note by a goal they didn't score. It was the KGB, I tell you.

Also, when they scored their last goal - as clearly stated in the commentary we hear all the fucking time - some people were on the pitch. The referee should therefore have stopped the game, so that one doesn't count either.
