I've kind of let this slip a bit...

July 5th 1811: Venezuela declares independence from Spain.

July 6th 1779: Battle of Grenada - a naval battle between France and Britain as part of the American War of Independence. French victory (huzzah!).

I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Also:

July 7th 1978: Solomon Islands obtain independence from Perfidious Albion. Huzzah!

He won Wimbledon, and Olympic gold, so he's British for ever. There large numbers of English people who hate him, though, saying on twitter that he should have been killed in the Dunblane school massacre (he was in the school at the time) and suchlike.

July8th, 2014: At Mineiro Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brasil's national football team, "a Seleção", suffers its worst defeat ever, 1 - 7, at the hands of the German national football team, "die Mannschaft". In an analogy to the worst football trauma Brazil had to go through, the "Maracanaço" of 1950, when Brasil lost its decisive World Championship match against Uruguay, the defeat is sometimes called the "Mineiraço".

It was a hell of a match.

Quite astonishing, that game. I was supporting Brazil, as I usually do (since I was at the world cup in 1998 as a Brazil supporter, couldn't get Scotland tickets).

I'd say you could have had an easier evening had you decided to root for the Arnebschaft.

I learned that today is also the 25th anniversary of Germany's third World Cup victory, in Rme, 1990. It happened under Imperial guidance and you will no doubt hear with delight that Germany beat Argentina as well as England on the road to victory.

Actually, I'm always keen to see Argentina do well too as they are one of the countries that England has a particular hatred for.

Speaking of which:

Actually, I'd love to hear about this all day, maybe on a good, long walk with more than few beers in the pub afterwards. But I'll take your yes as the concise, what do they call it nowadays, take-home message.
