You say GHOUGHPHTHEEIGHTTEEAU.

I say TOOMBEEIGHTTEEAU
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

Then there's the issue of the American spelling of words like 'neighbour,' and the correctness of 'hiccough' in the first place.

We're standardised on Commonwealth spelling here, but it's still a bit annoying sometimes to have the difference - e.g., LaTeX is a document preparation system that originated in the US, so if you want to produce a line with the word "centre" in the middle of the page, you need to write

\begin{center}centre\end{center}

But it is possible to define your own "centre" environment, and assign it the same meaning as the "center" environment.
