Shouldn't that be the other way around?

But oh, beamish nephew, beware of the day,
If your Snark be a Boojum! For then
You will softly and suddenly vanish away,
And never be met with again!
They call me Mr Celsius!

Well, yeah, according to Carrol. I was quoting from Doorways in the Sand. When the symbiotic intelligence, which the protagonist accidentally merged with while in a drunken stupor is trying to warn him that their enemies are being controlled by a hostile alien it can only communicate in an oblique fashion and for some reason chooses this phrase to convey its message.

Of course, since I was quoting from memory and it has been years since I read the book, I could be quite wrong and Zelazny chose this phrase to convey the message that they could be meet the fate described therein.

Ah, I wasn't familiar with this subsequent usage...
