In a bit of life imitating art, F1 driver Fernando Alonso will be pulling a Jean Girard (Talladega Nights) and contesting the Indy 500 this weekend.
He's doing surprisingly well, qualifying 5th of 33 in spite of never running on an oval till a few weeks ago.
Actual racing will be much more demanding than qualifying, but it should be very interesting.

Isn't the track at Indy more of a rounded rectangle than an oval, anyway?

Yes, they call out turns 1 through 4.
To me, they're all pretty much left turn only around a circle.

These guys are supposed to be professional drivers, but do I see them using turn signals? No, I don't.

They're not allowed to have indicator lights so they have to used hand signals.
