What sports teams do you support?

Off-Topic conversations about what ever you feel like talking about.

Postby Arneb » Mon Jan 24, 2011 5:40 pm

That's what I like about sports conversations: You can follow the thread for pages upon pages without ever having the foggiest idea what the others are talking about - IF they talk about a sport you aren't familiar with.

So then, Hertha are back to the top of Zweite Fußballbundesliga with a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Neanderthal sissies.

How's that?

Arneb - any opinion on the bone thing, or name of that brittle bone thing? (Neanderthal who now?) :?

Warm-up matches start two weeks from today! Each team will play twice before the group stage, so a total of 14 warm-up matches.

^^ ^^^ My point exactly.

To clear up the confusion: Hertha was playing Duesseldorf last week, and the Neander valley (Neanderzhal), where the first Neanderthal man was found, lies close to the city. That's why every opposing team calls Fortuna the Neanderthals.

On the brittle bone thingy? No opinion without good information. There is a crippling heredetary disease, osteogenesis imperfecta (glass bone disease), which leads to multiple bone fractures after small trauma from birth. Otherwise, there is no reason a knee cap shouldn't snap given the right force, and angle of attack of a trauma. The body of a knee cap is not necessarily stronger than the insertions of the tendons it is suspended in.

Ah well, that is the transfer window shut until the summer. Mixed feelings about Rangers signing El Hadji Diouf who can be a great player but is also a desicable twat as a human being. Probably a bit like your team signing Randy Moss; you hope for the best but hold your nose.

Say, it's getting close to 11 PM here, and I just saw the Super Bowl. Did anyone else see it? What a stunner! I can't believe that come-from-behind by Pittsburgh, I thought they were done for.

Do you folks in North America get it live, or is the broadcast delayed until your evening?

So the Pittsburgh victory?

There's a rumour going around the internet that in parts of North America where there are a lot of Packers fans, they showed an edited/manipulated version with the Packers winning. Where do people get these crazy rumours?

Regardless of who won, I actually watched, I think, the second quarter and part of half time. My reason? To see those great Superbowl commercials and legendary “costume malfunctions”. =P~

Canadian stations overdub all American channel commercials with Canadian commercials. (Can you spell b.o.r.i.n.g?)

Half time was “The Black Eyed Peas” with the most inane, childish, #$&*#@ I have seen in a while. Perhaps ever. Stopped watching part way through … that.

Crap.

Pretty lifeless halftime show.

As someone in the biz, I noted that when Will.i.am started the opening song, the first backup singer came in twice as loud, then Fergie came in and her microphone was OFF. Absolutely no excuse for that at that level.

ANd they were dancing on top of some stage construction with "LOVE" spelled out in large letters. The right-hand half of the V was dark the entire time. I am guessing a bank of dimmers was left unpowered, unconnected, or something. NO excuse for that either.

And please, what was the point of Slash rising up just to play the deebadooba-deep-doop line for Sweet CHild?

I think the "Lo\ e" thing was on purpose, I'm pretty sure I saw a graphic somewhere else that looked exactly like that.

I gotta admit, I didn't catch Christina Aguilera's flub. In my defense, however, we were busy panning her...um..."singing style?"

I laughed at the "Love Hurts" commercial.

In 2000, I watched with gleeful satisfaction as the Giants creamed the Vikings in the NFC championship game*. The next day, I remember a couple of Vikings fans saying they were going to call some 800 number to report the egregious cheating (by the Giants) and the (horrendous) officiating. I think they got sold that the number was an actual NFL office for that purpose.

*Side note: some idiot scheduled me to work during the Super Bowl that year, and despite my best efforts, no-one would switch with me. So, I recorded the game, and actually made it home before accidentally learning the outcome. I watched the first couple of Giants possessions where Kerry Collins (the Giants starting QB at the time) did everything but soil himself. I stopped watching, flipped the channel to Sports Center, and confirmed my fears that in fact, my co-workers had done me a favor.

Edit: The 2000 NFC Championship game (and Super Bowl XXXV) were played in 2001, not 2000.

The winners: West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, India.

The losers: Kenya, Netherlands, Canada, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Australia.

England and Pakistan haven't played yet.

These are just the warm-up matches though. The real deal starts later.

Track Cycling from Manchester at the weekend, while Lord Hoy of Velodrome was romping to victory there was a crash behind him and the Malaysian rider managed to get a 25cm splinter through his calf.

The Keirin is a splendid event and I would heartily recommend checking out the video of the race.
