The victory of India over Australia even made it to the sports page of FAZ

It's going to be the first time in 16 years that someone other than Australia wins the world cup!

Sri Lanka prevailed, it's now an all South Asia match. Sri Lanka against the winner of India vs. Pakistan.

India -v- Pakistan has just started; oh my giddy aunt it is going to be a tense old day and I have no direct emotional attachment to either team.

Arneb seems to be strangely silent about last night's game. :D

So I guess the Pakistan team decided it is OK to play in India after all . . .

Nah! It was good to see even our oh-so competent and focused wonder boys need some good old German nitty gritty in order to win. Seems they were beaten by a team very much committed to the old Deutsche Tugenden: Physical, bold, aggressive, fast play, come from behind to score a surprise winner against a technically superior team after said team has become confident enough to let discipline slip.

It was only a test match, and tested they were.

I saw some of it and your assesment matched mine.

Mactep: I hadn't realised Pakistan had only played in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh; they have played a number of times in India in the last couple of years though.

The Little Master was sketchy early on but in his stride now, it could be a long day for the Pakistani bowlers.

I just checked, and even their warm-up matches were played outside of India.

When they were stripped of their co-host status, there were some noises about how the team would refuse to play in India, and maybe the schedule was rearranged to accommodate that (until now). But, if you want to win it, you have to play in India :) The final is there, as well as one of the semi-finals (the one Pakistan is in right now), and one of the quarter-finals (not the one Pakistan was in).

I wasn't a bracket so it is possible that Pakistan would have been in one of the other quarter finals, they were dependent on group results.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is spectacularly corrupt and shout about anything so no-one listens to what they threaten.

Edit to add: As it is the Punjab arguably it isn't India. :D

Correct, they could have had to play in India three times had things turned out differently.

Well, looks like Pakistan only has to play one match in India.

India vs. Sri Lanka Saturday!

Pakistan never got going trying to chase down the Indian total. 1.2 billion people can't be wrong.

It could be a cracking final as the two best batting line ups are there.

I followed it on teh interwebz, Sri Lanka's innings was tense as it didn't look like thay had scored enough and despite the early wobbles Dhoni was a man on a mission and India were comfortable winners at the end.

No Hundredth Hundred for Tendulkar or winning end to his career for Muralitharan but a good game and a fair result.

Small Satan (Inter Milan) 2 - 5 Schalke 04.

The forces of evil are howling with grief, and the righteous dance in the streets.

Magic night in San Siro.

And Inter scored first, a good night for our favourite team from Gelsenkirchen.

Cup final for me this weekend.

It's a 250 mile drive each way, so if (/when) we don't win it'll be a miserable journey home.

I'd gladly trade yet another appearance in the final of this wee cup for not being caught up in the relegation scrap this season, instead of fighting for promotion like we should be, anyway.

It was indeed!

Not the best match I've ever seen, but our opening goal was one of the funniest I've ever seen.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'll look out for it.

Good to see a final held (sort of ) equidistant for both sets of fans.

Excellent goalkeeping.

The final is pretty much always in Perth, and it's just a coincidence that it was roughly half-way this time.
