He got quiet a lot of stick from all of us for the rest of the game, and defenders always got "put it back to the keeper!" shouted at them. Shame for him, really, as he made some decent saves and had a good enough game apart from that hilarious howler.

Totally insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but

VfL Bochum 0 - 2 Hertha BSC

gives me great joy. Hertha give a convincing performance away at third-placed Bochum, ending their 15 (!) match unbeaten streak. Second place Augsburg only get a draw, so five rounds before the finish line, Hertha have scored big this week.

Even bearing in mind Hertha's constant propensitiy for fucking up, I'll allow myself a roraing BUNDESLIGA, HERE WE MAAAAAAYBE COME!

A four point lead and five games to play, what can possibly go wrong . . . :D

A possible league decider at home in the final game against Augsburg? Nice. (Insert "League of Augsburg" joke here)

All you need is Fürth to get promoted with you.

that would be too much to ask. Plus, Bochum seems to be the team of the moment. I don't see Fuerth passing them, if only because Fuerth share the fuckup gene with Hertha, big time.

Hertha's lead over Bochum at third is 7 points, meaning they need 8 points from five matches. If they want to enter the relegation round (NO YOU DON'T, IDIOTS!!) against the club finisching 16th in the Bundesliga, they only need 4 points, being 11 pts. ahead of Fuerth.

A lot can go wrong with Auld Aunt Hertha. Usually does.

Hertha 4 - 0 VfL Osnabrück, while
FC Ingolstadt 04 3 - 0 VfL Bochum

I won't let any optimism get the better of me, but I have to admit that the chances of fucking up are diminishing all the time. 10 points off third-placed Bochum with four rounds to go means they now need only 3 points from four matches to secure promotion. ;-)

Meanwhile,

Dortmund 3 - 0 Freiburg
Bayern 5 - 1 Leverkusen

That means, Dortmund are 8 pts ahead of Leberkusen with four matches to go, and they need a meagre two points in 4 games to nail the Championship. Should be pieco of cake. Bayern trounce Leverkusen's chances of winning their first Champoionship, and fin themselves in Champions League trritory (third place) again.
All in all, not a bad football weekend.

Hoorray!

Postby Arneb » Mon Apr 25, 2011 9:16 pm

MSV Duisburg 0 - 1 Hertha BSC
Paderborn 0 - 0 Bochum

Which means hertha are 12 points ahead of the relegation position with three matches to go. Therefore, promotion is assured.

Bundesliga, here we come!

WooHoo! Go Hertha!

We contrived a draw at the weekend so we are still a point ahead but have palyed a game more. I con't see either team going undefeated for the last five games so it is still up in the air.

Hertha 1 - 2 Munich 1860

reminds me of the last time Hertha was promoted to the Bundesliga. As soon as promotion was secure, they lost EVERY match until the end of the season, even managing to come in second (after Kaiserslautern, who managed to become German champion in the following season!).

Meanwhile,

Dortmund 2 - 0 Nuremberg

Tough, my dear Frnconian inlaws! Dortmund are now German Champion (Cologne 2 - 0 Leverkusen), and Nuremberg are again, losing ground on the places entitling to European participation.

Two games to go, one point ahead. Playing the Arabs at Ibrox tomorrow and away to Killie at the weekend. Win both and the Forces of Darkness will be vanquished once again. :roll:

Ross County safe for another year. :D

I used the term "Forces of Darkness" this very day, in a similar context.

Except.... well..... I was referring to your lot.

:oops:

Yes, safe - finished 8th. 8th! 4th was the [strike]minimum[/strike] maximum I was willing to accept this year.

Winning the Mickey Mouse Memorial Shield is small compensation.

Arabs = Dundee United
Killie = Kilmarnock
Forces of Darkness = Rangers or Celtic
Hertz = Heart of Midlothian.

Hearts play Celtic tonight, if Celtic don't win tonight then Rangers probably win the league.

Simple :D

Also:

Old Firm = Celtic & Rangers
Old Infirm = Celtic & Rangers
The Sharks & the Jets = Celtic & Rangers
The Ugly Sisters = Celtic & Rangers
etc... Plus, although probably only from me:
Stig = Inverness Caledonian Thistle
The Tinks = Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Dungdee = Dundee
Queers from the South = Queen of the South
etc...

Sounds like he received a pretty brutal punishment immediately. I heard Chick Young on the radio this morning saying the guy was "handcuffed and taken up the tunnel". Dat's gotta hoit.

Three goals in the first seven miutes took all the tension out of the final day and Rangers coasted from there.

Sore heads all round!

Dortmund champion, Bayern veirtually secureto progres to the CL next season, Frankfurt relegated (if only Wolfsburg had been shot down, too, but alas!), Mönchengladbach in for a decier against Bochum - it was a good end to the season.

One deck below, Hertha coast to a sovereign "championship" of the Second League. Fürth, of course, squandered their last chance of becoming third by drawing with unremarkable Dusseldorf (not that a victory would have meant a difference, as Bochum won their match, too; but it is totally characteristic that Fuerth never win when they need to).

Manchester United 1 - 3 Barcelona FC, Barcelona win the 2011 UEFA Champions League.

What can I say? Inarguably the two best teams on the planet, one of them distancing their opponents by a shockingly large margin. Shocking, too, the large margin between these two and ANY imaginable German team, but that's an aside.

Easily one of the three best football matches I've ever had the pleasure to watch; the skill, the speed, the beautiful goals; not least: the exemplary sportsmanship displayed by almost everyone on the pitch.

What a night!
