Beer Taste Test

Postby Candy » Mon Mar 13, 2006 3:43 am

I can't seem to find the right beer. I've been experimenting with finding just the right one. I've come to the conclusion there is no right one. Beer is like wine when it comes to enjoying it with food.

Currently in the fridge are Amstel Light, Samuel Adams White Ale, Guinness, Tyskie, and Labatt Blue. I usually pick up a different flavor (brand) every week after class. :P

bake some biscuts and serve them hot with butter and honey and eat them while sipping some Anchor Steam beer.

I am willing to bet you will come back and thank me for a 5 star taste experience.

Warsteiner.

Not sure what it's best served with, but it's my fave beer.

If you like Guinness, try Murphy's Stout (if you can find it). Much better.

Why do you have to have just one kind of beer to drink? What kind of beer I drink depends on what I'm doing.

Driving home from work - anything in a can, because it's easier to hide.
Four wheeling - Usually Shiner Bock.
Sitting around the house - Guinness, or whatever we have on tap. Yes we have a tap at my house. :D

Some of my favorites not covered by those catagories: Blue Paddle, Fat Tire, Magic Hat No. 9, Yuengling (impossible to find in Texas), Ziegen Bock (only available in Texas). There's a few more that I can really remember right now.

I recommend Grolsch. (pronunciation: grols hard g)

It does taste quite like Warsteiner.
It originates from Grolle (Groenlo), so it's the regional brand for me.
It is of course Reinheitsgebot compliant.

I don't like Amstel or any other Heineken brands.
Heineken is a lot better in marketing the stuff, than brewing it.

For some reason lately, Guinness gives me a headache. :-k

I recently bought a tiny keg of Heineken. It was so cute. It was nice to have a cold beer on tap. I live alone, so buying a real keg is a bit much. I don't think anyone else markets those tiny kegs. 8-[

Grolsch is good. They used to sell it in North America in bottles with ceramic caps; I don't know if they still do...

It seems they still do.

And I saw Nero Wolf drinking it.

Anchor Steam was rated by Consumer Reports once as the best beer. I wonder if they sell it where you are at. If they do, you might be in for a sticker shock.

my two favorites these days are:

Odell's 90 Schilling and
Bristol Brewing's Laughing Lab.

not coincidentally, both are Scottish Ales, which I have a tendency to favor. they're relatively sweet compared to lagers, which make them good with food, IMO. of course, they're both also from colorado breweries, which i also tend to favor out of principle.

Just about any beer you drink when you are overseas seems to be better than the beer you drink here even if it is imported.

Brama and Antartica in Brazil are way better than anything I have ever had in the United States. (it might be the ol' saying: location is everything)

All the beers in Canada are better too. I think they have to intentionally brew seperate batchs for export that has less alcohol.

The see if you can get some Sam Adams Winter Lager. It's very malty. Two of them and you'll be sleeping like a baby. Feed the cat first.

Oh my lord, as much as I hesitate to agree with BT, the Anchor Steam really is good. A nice rich dark one. Not to be confused with ANchor beer from God knows where - indonesia maybe? That's just horse piss. Anchor Steam is all over, you should be able to find it.

Angkor beer, from Cambodia? I don't recall whether I had any when I was there.

I ended up with Samuel Adams Winter Lager (Lance's). I'll have to wait and hit the Super Market for the others. The liquor store didn't have much of a choice. The Super Market has tons to choose from. The Winter Lager is not bad. I'm cooking some fried chicken and french fries (with ketchup). Let's see how dinner is tonight. :P

No, Anchor, it's from SIngapore. Squatty bottles, white label with a big red anchor. Sucks. Might as well drink Blatz.
