At least the Leith Soap-Dodgers (that's Hibs to you) took points off both of us so we are back in the driving seat for next weekend.

Karlsruhe 4 - 0 Hertha

Karlsruhe are relegated as second-to-last.

Hertha lose the Chamionship, the Champions League, and the Champions League qualification ticket. As fourth of the table, they can lose against the likes of Wroclaw, Cluj, Brugge next season.

The doctor IS displeased....

Yes, I couldn't believe the Hertha score. If you draw Hearts I'll go to the game as your proxy.

The lawyer is pleased. *does happy dance*

I have a friend who supports them who lives in the US, so I go to european games in his stead. Their stadium is about 3 kms from my house, though they sometimes play european games at Murrayfield, which is slightly further.

Of course if Hertha do play them I'll be in the Hertha end with you. :D

WHy not? On this side of the pond it is about the closest we can come to hooliganism in sports. A few octopi on the ice may not be the same as 5000 fists flying, but whaddaya want? We just can't seem to get soccer going over here.

Osbourne's a freak of nature. From what I've gathered, he is the Wings defense so far in the post season.

I'll be rooting for The Kid and the Pens, though.

Wings up 2-0. Well, maybe Pittsburgh can avoid the sweep...

With security like it is, I still can't figure out how people get loads of octopi into these places. Makes me feel real safe.

Perhaps there is an octopus infestation in the stadium, and people are catching them on site . . .

Rangers won the Cup at the weekend so the Double for us.

In the Giro, our lad Dennis Menchov (he may be a drugged up Russian, but he's our drugged up Russian) was steaming to a close fought victory after three weeks and a couple of thousand kilometers. On the slick streets of Rome he was romping home with a minute to spare when the rain got worse and down he went leading to much profanity chez Ba'. He got back up and was still fast enough to win.

Two things to bear in mind here: he hit the deck at roughly 30 mph, wearing lycra, and bounced straight back up and secondly a huge bonus is due to the mechanic who was in the car, jumped out before it stopped, got the spare bike off the roof rack as it stopped and had it ready by the time Menchov was up again.

England 0 - 4 Germany

for the Final of the "under 21" Championship. Germany now hold the title of European Champion in the U17, U19 and U21 segments.

On of the photos in the news featured the Enlish goalie, Scott Loach. All they had to say was that he was "a typical example of the English goalkeeper".

Nuff said. Ah, the triumph! :D

Germany in red and England in white is just wrong, and I'm not a fan of self coloured strips. Good result though. I did laugh at Wagner scoring two goals, it seemed very Geman after the non-Teutonic sounding scorers Castro and Ozil. :D

Indeed. as a political aside, Germany is very much on a soul-searching trip regarding her power to integrate immigrants. I think this team is a very powerful reminder that not all is bad with groeing up in Germany.

Meanwhile Schalke 04 have managed to upset Muslims.

They'll just have to go back to the old version entitled "Buddha, ya fat bastard."

Schalke played in Edinburgh a couple of years ago and I thought their fans were great, but then I'm not Muslim.

So the words include:

Mohammed war ein Prophet, der vom Fussballspielen nichts versteht.

which means:

Muhammad was a prophet who understood nothing about football

Well, that's probably true. Does the Qur'an say anything about football? If they changed it to "Muhammad was a prophet who understood everything about football," would that be better?

I guess it is probably safer to piss of Buddhists rather than Muslims . . .
