And now we do. :D

I thought Germany looked very good, though it is hard to tell given the opposition and the Cahill sending off. I thought it was justified but the english media were outraged that an Everton player could be red carded.

To go back to an earlier discussion, that looks like a young, multicultural team Germany have now. They will surprise some people.

The only reason I know there was a game going on was the shouting outside.

That's how much I don't care.

Heid, I agree with everything you said so far.

And the Netherland didn't impress anyone with their colourless 2 - 0 against Denmark today. Aaaah, good times.

The media echo to the German game last night (I was thrilled. I loved it!) was interesting. Much of the usual panzer and goal machine shit, but the Corriere della Sera wrote that Germany "gave power to the imagination", and the Sun (Yes! THAT Sun!) begged to have the tournament started anew: "First, we don't beat the Yankees, then we must watch our Australian buddies being taken apart by the the old foe". Hah! And:"Löw's team showed everyone how the game should be played§. HAH! HAH!! I liked Ekstrabladet's (from Denmark) comment best: What has the world come to when it's actually fun to watch the Germans play football?" :D

Ah, I see. Acute Orangitis, again? No therapy possible except keeping your windows, doors, TV sets, eyes and ears firmly shut until the Dutch crash out of the tournament again, I am afraid...

And Der Kaiser criticising England's style? Even better.

Last night's weather was no surprise to anyone who follows rugby, the last couple of Lions tours have had some shocking weather. Italy will still do ok.

Drogba is playing so hopefully the dirty diving dagos will lose today.

I'm no fan of Brazil (other than the film, obviously) but since I have them in the office sweepstake I have a financial interest in their success.

My money would be on Brazil had I bet anything. Their individual talent plus Dunga's Geman conrol freakism and tactics obsession make them a lethal weapon. No more Mr. jogo bonito, man!

I hate Portugal, too. And C. R. the most.

0 - 0 against Ivory Coast. Good. Good.

ESP 0 - 1 SUI

Apparently, quite the upset. I admit, I was really hoping for a 0-0 draw - neutral parties, neutral pitch, neutral outcome.

Oh, I liked that result. It's good to see someone knows how to beat them.

RSA 0 - 3 Uruguay

I didn't know South Africa were THAT incapable. Urugay play a solid and well-crafted game, but to go down 0-3 against them looks like incompetence.

Well, maybe it makes the Vuvuzela wasp swarm a little more bearable.

I, apparently, got North Korea in the office sweepstake. I say apparently as I wasn't there to witness the draw. I am, of course, deeply suspicious of it.

However, I've always been a big Brazil fan. I even went to see them in the 1998 world cup.

Indeed. Two giants of world football in that match.

Ah well, England's evening match was some consolation.

I remind everyone of the fact that Germany, before the Serbia match suffered a total of four (4 !) defeats during World Cup first rounds: 1954 (Hungary), 1974 (GDR), 1982 (Algeria), and 1986 (Denmark). They reached the Final of all those four World Cup, and eventually won four of them.

So there. We're fine.

Shit. I want to see Cristiano Ronaldo, that little arsehole CRY, not grin smugly. Well, at least they didn't break our record.

Promise. One could see that they had their pants dirty. But, in good old German fashion, they still one. Amazing how Özil recovered from his squandered chance in the first half to score a goal of the month.

Nurse! My sides have split! Great game, and In-Gur-Lund are lucky they didn't lose 6 or 7 -1.

I really love the irony of their "disallowed goal". Almost makes up for the one that was wrongly given in The-Year-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named. Mind you, they still need to make amends for scoring another while the ref should have stopped the game, due to a pitch invasion, and for cheating by rearranging the fixtures in that world cup (while it was in progress) so they'd play ALL their matches at their beloved Wembley.
