You know, I somehow can live with what hyppened in the Year I Will Not NAme Out Of Respect For Your Feelings. It's SO nice, to be able to say, Yeah, right, you were better once, when I wasn't even born; it was total CHEAT by the Soviet linesman, and we have been winning every single important game since. Aaaaaah.

lus, we got back our Wembley goal.

I think the Germans stand a good chance against Spin, too. That was totally different when they met two years ago.

How could they do this to us? :(

Spain or Netherlands? How much Oranje can I take? Do I support Spain as I spend more time there?

There is always fun to be had when the Spanish play the Marcha Real; it is the done thing at rugby matches to enquire if anybody knows the words, or to encourage others to "sing along, don't be shy".

Definitely Spain for me, as I used to live there when I was very young. Plus, the Netherlands have been pretty dirty so far - should have had many more players booked, and even sent off, so far.

Spain for me, too. A matter of course here in the Grenzland. Plus, we want to at least have lost to the new Champions.

And yes, I am in pain. our total not having a chance was too much to bear. No broad grins in cases of mourning, please, Mactep.

OK, I know nothing of it, but I will support you guys rooting for Spain.

I always rooted for Barcelona in the old "World Football League."

Ah the World League many a happy hour was spent watching the Claymores. Great days out, often very poor fare on the pitch.

We had a running back from Alabama called Siran Stacy who used to put up gaudy numbers in games we lost comfortably. One game he ran for about 180 yards at about 8 yards a carry and we got humped.

1st and 10: 7 yards off tackle.
2nd and 3: sack for 14 yard loss
3rd and 17: 9 yards off tackle
4th and 8: punt.
Repeat.

The Claymores once signed a 420 lb defensive takle called Tom Scott. No, not a misprint. There were a number of good players who went on to NFL careers but sometimes it was a freakshow.

Well, even if HD won't cheer for Oranje, I will; besides, I was really hoping for the Dutch - German final.

Didn't Amsterdam have a WFL franchise as well? Or am I thinking of NFL-Europe?

Edit: Just Googled it; never mind, they're the same thing - and it was the Admirals.

Yep, same thing. It didn't take off in Netherlands the way it di din Germany but road trips to A'dam were interesting.

Sigh. This time it's a lot less cheerful than four years ago. That defeat against Spain stung a lot.

Third place. It's not so bad, is it? All but two teams did worse :)

I watched the Spain/Germany match in a bar in New York City. My floor was mostly Spain people, upstairs was mostly for 'schland. Needless to say, my floor was a lot happier than the upstairs one.

Slainte Mhor!

Who are the Arabs and dirty Hibbees, btw?

Second League is soo tough. I dread the day when they will lose to SC Paderborn 07 or Wismut Aue... It's a bad, bad dream, and it could become the grim reality so soon.

What, no "Huns" in there? ;)

And I think you'll find the correct term for Caley Thistle is either "Stig", or "The Tinks", on account of their ground being built on a dump.

I stand corrected;

Leith Soapdodgers 0 - Huns 3
Arabs 0 - The Tinks 4
Hertha 3 - RedWhite 2

Hibernian = Dirty Hibbees/Leith Soapdodgers as they are from near the docks and the poorer areas of Edinburgh.
Dundee United = The Arabs (their pitch used to be so bad it was mostly sand, rather than grass).

Arneb, are you not more worried about losing to Union in the cross town derby?

As much as it gies me the dry boak to say it, The Tinks got a good result there. Well... <ack> ... done to them.

Good FSM! What was I thinking . . . I confused the Tinks with your noble warriors when I posted this. Humble apologies. I should have posted

Coggies 0 Staggies 0

I may never live this down.

I'll let you off, this time. Taking a shiny new point back from the Coggies (or Dungdee, as I know them) is a decent result for us at this stage of the season. :)

Personally, no. I always had a soft spot for Union, as they were the Eastern underdog club which was always harassed by the Stasi and their ilk when Stasi club BFC Dynamo Berlin reigned supreme in the East. Also, both Hertha and Union have a (former) working class background, so I guess the acrimony is a bit less stark than between other local rivals.

That may not be what other people think, though.

Ah, working class solidarity, you can't beat it.

Oh well, beatings await in the Champions League. Rangers are in a Group with ManU, Valencia and Bursaspor. Potential winners, possible semi finalists and the Turkish champions. We'll be lucky to come last.
