As a former radio announcer, I can usually say things; toy boat toy boat.

But I am not certain I can say Deutschlandachter once.

Yeah, I was struggling too. Perhaps a pronunciation key would help? Arneb?

"DOYTSH-lund-uch-tur"

Deutsch --> Doytsh
"land" as in Dolph Lundgren,
ch as in Loch Lomond, a as an Enlgishman would pronounce "ghastly"
"ter" bluntly and weakly, as in "better"

Achter ("eighter") is an eight-man oar boat, usually considered the flagship rowing discipline (cf Oxford vs. Cambridge boat race). The German eight-man won the Gold in London, for the first time since 1988, beating Great Brtitain and Canada.

And in the US, American football has resumed with pre-season play (and injuries), back-up refs, arrests, court appearances, and 3-0 Monday Night Football scores.

My Giants pretty much stood pat during the off season, while the rest of their division either improved (Redskins) or looks to better underwhelming seasons (Eagles, Cowboys). Given that they barely made their way in last year, I don't think they make the playoffs this year. On the upside, no one has even mentioned Brett Favre, yet.

Meanwhile, Hertha look promising for a relegation double-whammy after drawing their first and losing their second match, both against unremarkable teams.

Well, maybe they'll play Babelsberg next season. I'll be there, cheering Babelsberg to victory.

New Zealand has already clinched the title, but will play South Africa Saturday night (my time). I can live with either outcome on that one. Would very much like Argentina to humiliate Australia Sunday morning, but must recognise that this outcome does not seem very likely :(

If the Pumas can keep it as a forward grinder they may win, but that is the last thing the Convict Colony wants. Wallabies to win.

Fuck Stirling with a big fucky thing.

That would be handy, thanks. Do you need a visa to come that far south?

I'm getting my paperwork in order for a trip to Kingussie later in the month. :D

I think it is part of the Aviemore Co-Prosperity Shere so there is a waiver system. I'll check with the consulate.

Germany 4 - 4 Sweden,

in a World Cup qualifier in Berlin.

The first time EVER a German national team squandered a 4 - 0 lead. Everyone here is stunned, and I am very happy I didn't watch the game as I would probably have been frothing at the mouth.

As a legendary German comedian once put it, Gut, dass das jetzt passiert (and not in World Cup quarterfinal  ). FAZ wrote: Artists without a conductor. BOOM.

Oh dear lord

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/brothels- ... nance.html

Apparently a Greek soccer team needed sponsor money so they got support from some brothels. Just imagining if that took off here, we love to sell off the naming rights to things. "Home of the Tennessee Twats" "Brought to you by the Colorado Cunts."

Coincidentally, if you have the board set to show 15 posts per page, this is appropriately on page 69.
