Arneb, I'll put a word in for you, you'll have citizenship by the weekend. Shame about Fuerth.

SV Babelsberg von 1903 1 - 0 Hertha BSC II

This one was special: It was my son's first visit to a football stadium - he liked it, although he is monumentally uninterested in playing sports himself; our very local club - the stadium is within walking distance from our house - managed to stay in its league on the last day of play with a minimal and hard-won victory. And I supported them even though they played against the farm team of my old love, Hertha ... I was conflicted, but I figured I'd be better off if the local club offered at least fourth league fitba. And then they won despite my support, which was as great as it was unexpected.

In the evening, we had our Cup Final, which turned to be a great evening -
Borussia Dortmund 0 - 2 Bayern Munich (after extra time)

Arjen Robben scored after running around the pitch like one of those bunnies in the Duracell commercials, and Thomas Müller scrambled in the decider two minutes from time after he had been treated several times for cramps - I rooted for Dortmund, but this was one worthy final to a crazy season. And I do have hopes for our team in the World Cup, because, yeah, this was very, very good football.

Tomorrow night, my SpVgg Greuther Fürth have the chance to sink Hamburg into the second league after a 51-season presence in the Bundesliga. I am sure they will botch it, but I'll root for them tooth and nail anyway, especially after a valiant performance (0 - 0) at Hamburg Volksparkstadion last Thursday.

Aaaand...

Greuther Fuerth 1 - 1 Hamburger Sportverein,

giving Hamburg the smallest possible edge - getting through on the away goals rule, having socred only once and having failed to gain a victory - to remain in the Bundesliga for a 52nd consecutive year. And, of course, my second love, Greuther Fürth, did not fail to disapoint me.

Judging by the outcome, not particularly.

They did qualify for the World Cup next year, though, and they'll be in the same pool as Scotland, which should be independent by then.

One of the great fears in world rugby is that the US will start to involve all the college football players who don't go to the NFL. If they ever find the funding they could become a very good side.

Indeed, they would have to adjust the play books for a different level of literacy, would they not?

Yes, they would have to reduce them to 10 year old level but the physicality would compensate.

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

What? YOU root for England in a match against New Zealand when practically every Non-New Zealander roots FOR the All Blacks? Or ist the dyysum simply because the win was not an outright trouncing of the opposition?

When you're used to seeing the ABs win virtually every time, its disappointing when its nearly a draw or a loss, but yet somehow they still manage to clinch a win. ;) ;-)

On the recent NZ-England contest, because I'm a little unsure of how to operate the DVR feature of my cable television box, I ended up recording it twice.

The outcome was the same both times.

I don't really care much for rugby, but a win for Scotland AND a defeat for England (at anything at all) is worthy of at least some celebration.

So:

On this subject I expect to become a hard line tifoso by about 2300 BST on Saturday, Chilean and Costa Rican thereafter.

In various draws and sweepstakes I have amassed : Bosnia, Algeria and Honduras as my teams. I don't expect much return on those investments.

Our world cup tombola will be operational on Thursday morning. I have instructed the guy walking around with the hat of teams not to approach me until after England has already been drawn. Can't be too careful.

Wow. I used to follow formula racing, but it was back in the day of Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, and the Porsche 904.

They now have hybrids at leMans?
