Casillas was flapping about like a fanny and knew he had missed the ball so looked for the foul. He'll be lucky to play again after his performance last night.

This could get big for the ABs, hopefully an omen for tonight's football.

The bar where I am sitting (Bungy Bar) is very definitely English territory. The backbenchers are much more southern-hemisphere oriented.

Holy shit, that was close. If they make the kick, England will lose by one point.

And they did, but at least they lost. Now all we need is the Lankans to bat all day and for the 'tallys to put five past Englamd tonight.

1400 BST start for Le Mans as well, I suspect AUDI won't win but it should be good.

Kelderman is going well in the Dauphine, this could be a busy weekend. Well busy in the sense that I watch a lot of sports.

No issue with your assessment of Casillas' performance, but I disagree about the foul. For me, he wasmaking a sure jump for catching the ball when vP jumped into hjim grabbing and pulling down his left arm. But I already noticed that on the British isles, the six ysrd box is not consiedered an area of any spcial significance. :D :-D  Hold your own, goalie, and don't start whining. Goalies are overrated, anyway - at least, that seems to be the English position on this, to everyone else's delight.

I am pretty sure the Italians will just shoot England out of the water without much of an effort. OK, maybe we can agree on a final table of Uruguay - Costa Rica - Italy - England

He didn't get near the ball, he was late and low.

You have to let the striker get near the ball, otherwise just not allow anyone into the six yard box like hockey.

I certainly hope so.

Four hours in: AUDI have one car set up to harass the Toyotas and Porsches into running too fast so they break. Herr Doktor Ullrich was entirely unimpressed with the Ferrari driver who ran into the back of one of his cars.

He was a lot more restrained than I would have been, but then he has seen it all before.

Can we rely on you to support Italy later on?

I have Uruguay to win the whole thing . . .

Scotland beat Canada at rugby, but it was closer than it should have been.

AUDI, Porsche, AUDI with five hours to go.

AUDI one, two, the Porsche batteries couldn't take it while the AUDIs each blew a turbo which was a quicker fix.

At college, I was a member on a fairly poor intramural basketball team. After weeks of futility, we finally happen to win a game to what was probably the next worst team in the league, and we happen to overhear one of our opponents disgustingly say something to the effect "we just lost to the worst team." "Nope," my teammate gleefully responded, "we're only the second-worst team." Good man.

And speaking of worsts and second-worsts - do you think the US has it to rise to a new level of mediocrity and be at least second-worst in Group G? Today's match may be the decider.

I'm currently way out in the lead in our office score predictor. In order that this may continue until the presentation of prize money, I'm afraid I am obliged to cheer on U!S!A! U!S!A! this time, in addition to Iran and Germany. Arneb, if your lot can break at least one leg on that diving, cheating arsehole Cristiano Ronaldo this evening, that'd be great.

I've got Netherlands in our sweepstake. Although I'm pretty sure they won't win it, I'm even more sure that I could have drawn several teams with significantly less chance (like the dreaded In-ger-lund).

I was in London a few years ago when he still played for ManU and one of the locals proclaimed "Christiano Ronaldo? He's just a fackin' nonce." A sentiment I find it hard to argue with.

Germany is having no problems with Portugal. Up 3-0 at half.
At this rate, probably nobody's going to bother with Ronaldo, unless he starts something.

UPDATE: Germany wins easily, 4-0. Ronaldo is still on both feet.
