Sorry about those ABs Heid
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

Yeah, we showed those Tongans though.

Oh my giddy aunt, some comedy defending by Hertha. They got away with it though.

I did say when we went to the fourth tier we wouldn't make it back up in three goes. Fuck Hearts, fuck Ally McCoist and fuck our over paid under achieving fannybaw players. With a few notable exceptions our players are sleepwalking through the season in the belief that they don't need to try and they'll win the league. No we won't, and we'll be lucky to get into the playoff at this rate.

Which is rare enough these days. Their remaining list of matches before winter: Bayern (H), Mönchengladbach (A), Dortmund (H), Frankfurt (A) - easily 0 out of 12 points for them. So no nice pad of 28 points before the start of their usually grotty second half of the season.

That certainly is a problematic series of games. A poor run int he New Year and you'll be struggling.

Our cable package throws up some odd things on the sports channels, like the live Hertha game the other week. Tonight I think I have the Grey Cup to watch.

Inspiration or idiot? I know nothing about this guy but my belief, based on nothing more than young men being idiots and a world weary cynicism, is that so many young footballers have heart problems because they have lots of money, plenty of free time, hangers on who are happy to party and easy access to cocaine and other drugs.

I'd probably have to know more about that guy and his circumstances before making that call. Seems like a huge risk to take. Mind you, if he's a professional footballer there's a good chance he's too stupid to do anything else to earn a living, and I guess he is playing at too low a level to have accumulated a dragonesque hoard of riches that he could just sit on for the rest of his life.

I'd say neither. He is in Germany's Third League, where players can live a somewhat well-off life but don't save up enough to live off it later. He is a professional, I'd say, and he is prepared to go to great lengths and take some risks in order to work in his chosen profession. It's good stuff for the warm and squishy homestory in the article, but it's nothing to get too worked up about.

The federation could always ban him from playing for health reasons. The fact that they didn't shows that his prognosis is probably good. He had an acute cardiac illness (myocarditis, rather than the congenital abnormalities or chronic cardiomyopathies that cause most sports-related sudden deaths), and his heart should have a fair chance of healing completely. It's not my field, but I'd say it's entirely possible that his cadiologists will offer him a removal of the defi if his cardiac function is normal and stable and the instrument doesn't shock him for a few years.

I'd say, good on you for working your way back in to the team, and the best of luck.

See above, but replace Hearts with "our owner". I was in no fit state to post after the game last night.

Life can be a bitch, right?

Today, in a frigid Olypmpic Stadium in the old Reichshauptstadt...

Hertha BSC 1 - 0 Dortmund.

Somewhat unexpected, but happily received. Not 0 points out of 12 now...

Frankfurt 4 - 4 Hertha

Garch. A victory would have meant 20 points, half the rent collected at day 16 of 34, 6 points clear of relgation-playoffs. Now, having squandered a 3 - 0 and a 4 - 2 lead (and goals 3 and 4 for Frankfurt occurring in extra time to boot), they are in a crunch at 14th - lower-placed teams being Bremen, Hamburg, Stuttgart, and Dortmund. Not obvious relegeation candidates, and woe to us if those ever find their normal form...

Basically, nothing. You can book seats for Rangers in the CL quarterfinal year after next. Where they'll beat Hertha.
