Correct!

Rangers have Feyenoord later at Ibrox and I suspect our win percentage will take a tumble. It will be emotional for the fans but the current team is too far removed from Ricksen for it to mean anything to them. The only player who might ever have played against him would be Jermaine Defoe and none would have played with him.

Tilting arse, twenty odd minutes in we’ve missed a penalty and scored. So one nil to us.

I had actually forgotten the land of Mactep’s birth, who have just scored the first try of the competition against the hosts. I still think Japan will win this game, they’ll outlast Russia who are fired up for this.

Russia played well and did better than expected, in part because Japan did nothing flashy they are saving the good set moves for Ireland and Scotland.

St Johnstone, nil nil at halftime, a couple of quick goals early int he second half have put the world to rights. If Lianachan hasn’t appeared by then I’ll add RCC’s score at the end of this game.

Motherwell 1 - 2 Ross County

A good result, they’d previously won several matches in a row.

Played 43, won 25, drawn 5, lost 13.

A very good result, even though you left it late. Away wins are always good.

Two late goals by our Ancient Midget* took it to

St Johnstone 0 - 4 Rangers

Played 44, won 26, drawn 5, lost 13. A decent weekend all in all.

*I lost count of the number of people who told me Defoe was too old and small for Scottish fitba’. Too old for a decent league maybe, but good enough for Scotland.

20% of the Rugby World Cup group-stage matches played, and no real surprises so far.

Pool A - probably Ireland first, Scotland second, thus advancing to the knock-out stage. My guess is Japan will come in third, and therefore be eliminated, but qualify for the 2023 World Cup in France. Samoa and Russia probably eliminated.

Pool B - probably New Zealand first, South Africa second, advancing to the knock-out stage. Probably Italy third, eliminated but qualified for 2023. Canada and Namibia probably eliminated.

Pool C - maybe the trickiest, but I think - England first, France second, advancing to knock-out stage. Argentina third, qualifying for 2023 but eliminated this year. United States and Tonga probably eliminated.

Pool D - probably Australia first, Wales second, advancing to the knock-out stage. Probably Uruguay third, but a lot of uncertainty about that. Maybe Fiji and Georgia bringing in the bottom two places.

So those are my predictions, with 20% of the group stage completed. Four more matches (bringing us to 30% of the group stage completed) to be played before the weekend.

They totally make sense to me. Which, given my utter incompetence at Rugby, is probably a bad sign.

Russia humiliated by Samoa today.

So, I think it very likely that in Pool A, Ireland come in first, Scotland second, and Russia fifth. The question is, will Samoa defeat Japan, and come in third, thereby automatically qualifying for 2023? (Still eliminated from this tournament though.)

I'm still going with Japan though. So my full-ranking prediction for Pool A is:

1) Ireland
2) Scotland
3) Japan
4) Samoa
5) Russia

Only action tomorrow is Fiji vs. Uruguay in Pool D.

It is entirely possible we could lose to Japan.

That is the last of the 40 group-stage matches. So we have to wait a while :)

It will be make or break for us, our B team will see off Russia and we should be too good for Samoa. Japan will see us as beatable, they’ll send out their B team against Ireland.

Hmm, I suppose they could.

Still, I'm keeping Scotland in my #2 slot. Even though Japan beat South Africa during the last World Cup.

Uruguay barely squeaks by over Fiji in Pool D. I"m sticking with Australia in first place and Wales in second, but I'm now very uncertain about third, fourth, and fifth. The candidates are Fiji, Uruguay, and Georgia.

Tomorrow brings us Italy v Canada in Pool B and England v US in Pool C.

No surprises today. Italy crushes Canada convincingly, England crushes US almost as convincingly.

Nothing on until mid-day Saturday.
