South Dakota native Becky Hammon took over head coaching responsibilities for about 3/4 of an NBA game after the regular coach, Gregg Popovich, was ejected. While they still lost, they did about as well as expected. I'm hoping that she winds up as the first full-time head coach in the big four (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL), but we'll see. All of the men's big leagues have employed women in coaching positions for several years, now, and it's only a matter of time before one of those organizations decides to take the plunge.

Old Firm game kicks off in an hour or so. It is must win for them, if we win then we will have gone a long way to winning the league.

Scoreless after half an hour, we’re looking very ordinary but they may tire as they have come out all guns blazing. These games often go against form.

And so it finished:

Rangers 1 - 0 Worthless Dicksplash FC

Played 93, won 49, drawn 18, lost 26.

This means we are 19 points ahead of them, though they have three games in hand and we only play twice more. We just have to more or less match their results from here in. A draw would have been good for us, they really had to win.

It’s not in the bag yet, but you’re certainly stretching the top of the bag and making cautious estimates of its volume.

I like the upper end of that table, but the lower end is rather troublesome.

Why, thank you!

Hertha BSC 3 - 0 FC Schalke 04

Schalke have now 30 matches without a victory, approaching a record that seemed unassailable, of 31 matches, scored deep in the 60s by another Berlin loser band, Tasmania 1900. I had the bad feeling we'd be the ones giving a transfusion to the ultimate team im crisis. Phew!

Played 94, won 50, drawn 18, lost 26.

I saw that record, two thoughts: I saw Nul Vier playing Hearts in Europe about 16 years ago and they were a decent side; secondly “Tasmania”? Really?

Oh, Schalke were a decent side until quite recently. They've been on and off CL and EL participants (13 times out of 20 in the new millenium), beating the likes of Real Madrid and rarely being shot out of the stadium by anyone. Two national vice championships and the odd European quarterfinal. At their last win, 2 - 0 against eventual CL participant Mönchegladbach in February. they were forurth of the table. They came back from the first lockdown totally unhinged and have been in that state ever since, sacking two able managers and hiring a retired Swiss with a "tough dog" reputation for the rest of the season.

Tasmania? Yes, Tasmania. The turn of the last century was a time when exotism and an interest in foreign lands flourished over here - Germany had always been rather provincial, and we never had a Worl-wide Empire to conquer and administrate, mind you. Having African and Pacific colonies was young, new and exciting at the time. In the case of Rixdorfer TuFC Tasmania 1900, they say that there were Tasmanian Devils in the Berlin Zoo at the time, and they found it fitting to have themselves named after an exotic, small yet aggressive predator.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2 - 1 FC Sankt Pauli

Pauli never saw our box from up close for 80 min, then a new arrival puts it in and gives us a jittery ten minutes. But all ends well.

That seems to have been our first four-victory weekend, right?

Played 95, won 51, drawn 18, lost 26.

Ah no, now I see it:

Ross County 1 - 1 St. Johnstone

Not what we want, but a clear upward trend from before Christmas!

Played 96, won 51, drawn 19, lost 26.

A loss free weekend, I’ll take that. I think we’ve had a four win weekend before but maybe only once. Your two teams must be on their break soon.

This weekend WILL be worse.

Karlsruher SC 3 - 2 SpVgg Gruether Fürth

Two defense fumbles, and the better team lost. We could go down to fifth as a result. Still a bit above totally mediocre.

Played 97, won 51, drawn 19, lost 27.

We have an unfortunate habit of winning a big game and then losing the next. We’re away to the sheepshaggers today which is a game we often lose. I’m not too hopeful.
