Hertha BSC 1 - 1 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Could have been a lot worse. M'Gladbach just advanced to the CL round of last 16 alongside Real, beating Inter and Donezk. We're 5 below tha last European spot (currently held by Union, who managed to hold Bayern to draw!)and five above the relegation playoff spot. The next three matches are critical, when we are up against three other bad teams, twice at home.

Played 77, won 41, drawn 17, lost 19

We've drawn Royal Antwerp in the Pissie Wee Euro Cup for Pissie Wee teams. That is about as good as it could have been.

Ah, sorry, there was a funny misunderstanding there: I didn't realize that the draw for the next round has already taken place and took your sentence "We've drawn Royal Antwerp" to mean you played them and it was a draw. Sorry for my English...

And yes, you can definitely drag those down. Maybe they don't that much dragging anyway. Haven't heard of the stellar football capabilities of Royal Antwerp so far, anywhere.

Ah, of course. I should have been clearer. Yes, i don't think there is much between us, if we win this tie then we'll definitely be dragging someone down.

How very queer, I completely missed the fact we were playing last night. Of course I wasn’t wearing the lucky shirt and we Hertha’d a game we could, and should, have won.

St Mirren 3 - 2 Rangers in the Wee Cup

Played 80, won 41, drawn 18, lost 21

Another Fuckup: As usual, my participating in Der Spiegel's online football quiz reveals my appaling ignorance in matters footbally. This time, I got three, close to what you'd expect to get from blindly guessing. If you want to try, here's the quiz, and here are the translated questions:

1 Current no. 1 in the FIF nations ranking?
2 Who was the last defender before Martin Hinteregger in 2019/20 to score 8 goals (for Mönchengladbach) in a Bundesliga season?
3 Which of the following 4 clubs will not play in the Europa League in the spring after having finished 3rd in their respective CL groups?
4 Dec. 1997, round of last 16 in the German FA Cup. An Aachen player fails to convert a penalty, then appears to score the rebound shot. The ref. (and rightly so) interrupts the match and adjudicates a dropball. What had happened a) Someone threw a second ball onto the pitch before the rebound shot, b) The "scoring jingle" in the stadium had been turned on before the goal was scored, c)After the penalty, but before the rebound shot, soemone had insulted the ref, or d) the shooter lost his shoe between the penalty shot and the rebound shot.
5 Before last week's 1 all in Frankfurt, Dortmund hadn't drawn in 27 Bundesliga matches. Which club didn't draw 34 times between 1979 and '80?
6 Four 1954 World Champions were still playing when the Bundesliga opened in 1963. Which of the four incurred the first ever Bundesliga sendoff?
7 There is only one player who scored in four English FA finals for the same club. Who is he?
8 Mönchengladbach's current manager, Marco Rose, played in the Bundesliga for which club?
9 After their 1990 Bundesliga Championship, FC Bayern had this lovely photo taken. Which of the following men can be seen in the photo?
10 World Championshiop qualifiers 2014: Germany get 9 wins and one draw, but that draw is spectular. Germany managed to squander a four nil lead within the last 30 min. Who scored the equalizer for Sweden?
(You have to go to the quizz to see the answers, I only translated the answers for q. 4).

I mean, piece o' cake, right?

No takers?

Hertha up against Freiburg tomorrow. Weak performance this season, but not only the anti-Bayern of the Bundesliga but also kind of the anti-Hertha: Solid, unhysterical, lovingly developing players from their own youth, a coach who will always forgive a loss but gets furious when they don't give their all. They migrate between Europa League and the upper regions of the Second League, always strapped for cash, always depending on the on or two seasons during which young players they developed lift them above their weight class before they get bought off. No fucking big-city club blabla, no failed elderly players mopping about in the board of directors (like former Arsenal goalie and his Corona-is-like-the-flu blather). No millions getting squandered with substandard players, incompetent coaches, no media lights shining on vanity fights within the smug and self-aggrandizing club leadership.

Not in other words, Hertha.

Ross Cunty 0 - 2 Hamilton

A game we should easily be winning, and we’ve not won a league game since September. Time fo our manager to get the heave-ho I reckon.

Played 82, won 41, drawn 18, lost 23.

Played 83, won 42, drawn 18, lost 23

Hopefully the new man, or woman, will do better. I assume your laddie will be home for the Midwinter celebration? We’re stuck here so if you know anyone also stuck here who needs a good feed and industrial quantities of alcohol let me know. All welcome. Well not all, but all right thinking people.

Ah, a fine offer. He has actually been home all year as all of his studies are now available online, and there's no point in spending a fortune to needlessly stay in Embra when he could be here mooching off us. Other student son, at the more westerly end of the central belt, came home for yule last week. Who knows when he'll get back now, with the new restrictions. Happy Australian style christmas everybody :)
