I watched some of it but Hertha could still be playing and they wouldn’t have scored.

Driving a few nice attacks early in the game, not having been pummelled and seing our new acquisition, Sami Khedira, play a good role (he is a 2014 World Champion, and he should bring some no-nonsense attitude from his former club, Juventus) is probably all we could hope for. It's the fucking Bayern, after all. No amount of lucky-shirt-wearing could ever change that.

I ended up watching some of it. England were truly dreadful and it did put their claim that the final game would be a Grand Slam decider into perspective.

Talking about the game someone on the BBC is of the opinion that England’s losing bonus point “might be decisive in the final reckoning”. Which kind of assumes that England will win their last four games despite how awful they were yesterday and how predictable they are.

Well maybe a grand slam decider for someone else.

Last year there was no grand slam, although England did win the triple crown and the tournament.

Even if Italy is a gimme, they've got France, Wales, and Ireland remaining - I wouldn't count on winning all four.

Last year, two teams (England and France) won four matches, and two teams (Scotland and Ireland) won three. The one remaining match was won by Wales. Italy won none. England, France, Ireland, and Scotland were all theoretically in contention until the last week, although the planets would have had to align in a really strange way for Scotland to have won it.

It is possible for a team with three wins to win the tournament, even if someone else has four wins, due to the bonus points. Not five wins, though - if someone wins all five, they win the tournament, due to the three "special" bonus points.

I follow this stuff very superficially - but was there ever a time, any time, when Italy wasn't a gimme?

Having two months off I am considering to treat myself to a dose of that other Chase the Egg. Apparently, there is a game of some importance on tonight, and German free TV stations carry it, starting 40 min. past midnight. Let's see if I can make it this far, and then not doze off. It used to be broadcast by public TV, and this had the advantage that it was ad-free (German public TV isn't allowed to carry commercials after 8 p.m. and all day on Sunday), and someone was always explaining to you what had just happened. These days, in private but free TV, the commentators are bunch of nerds blathering on about things only a miniscule fraction of people over here even understand.

Italy were getting to be ok about five years ago but have regressed relative to everyone else since. “Other” chase the egg? League?

Half time, nothing each.

Italy joined the tournament in 2000. Since that time, they won against Scotland in 2000, won against Wales in 2003, won against Scotland in 2004, drew against Wales in 2006, won against Scotland and Wales in 2007, won against Scotland in 2008, won against Scotland in 2010, won against France in 2011, won against Scotland in 2012, won against France and Ireland in 2013, and won against Scotland in 2015.

So their record against the other five teams are:

Against England: 0-21-0
Against Ireland: 1-20-0
Against France: 2-20-0
Against Wales: 2-18-1
Against Scotland: 7-14-0

Note that they have one more match against France than any other team, since they have played France this year, but not any of the other teams yet.

So overall, Italy's record is 12-93-1. But they haven't won (or drawn) since 2015. (Note - this is strictly in the Six Nations tournament, it doesn't any matches in the World Cup or anywhere else.)

The time is wrong for Wales v Ireland, so I guess you are talking about American football?

Here is a list of wins by Italy over the Tier 1 countries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy_nat ... union_team

They have won against the other Six Nations teams ten times outside of the Six Nations tournament, five times against Argentina, and once against South Africa. Never against England, never against Australia, never against New Zealand.

They have beaten Canada most of the time, and the US every time.

Shitting pissflaps, we score a late winner then give away an equaliser at 90+4. Sorry County.

Played 120, won 59, drawn 24, lost 37.

Yep Superb Owl it is.

Oh Rangers, where are you when we need you?

Again, consoloation comes from Franconia:

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 4 -1 SV Würzburg

We are in third today, and we could stay there if Düsseldorf get their act together and beat Kiel tomorrow.

Played 121, won 60, drawn 24, lost 37.

Wales winning a bruising game with a day fewer to prepare for us is good, Ireland losing despite being the better team is also good. Of course Wales have to finish it off.

So for Six Nations, in all three matches, the consonants won, and the vowels lost.

Finally, they are playing. First quarter almost over, 7:3 for the Buccaneers. Commentators falling over themselves about how great this all is.

It's not boring, that's for sure.

Lots of to- and fro in the second quarter, Buccaneers prevented from touchdown milliinches from the end zone. Kansas City look vulnerable but are still only down 7-3.

KC spoiling their game by fouls, then a brilliant pass, and it's 14-3.
