Barcelona 3 - 1 Juventus Turin

I don't know in any of you across the pond watched, but you might want to. Football doesn't get much better than this. Hey, and Barcas goalie is German!

I would have supported Barcelona as I've been there (and to a game), plus of course, Italians are not to be supported under most circumstances, but I didn't watch it.

I am currently watching Canada v China in the Women's World Cup though. The Canadian captain is earning her 224th cap  .

Germany 5 - 0 Cote d'Ivoire in the Women's football World Cup, and it's only the 36th minute

10 - 0 at full time. Why don't I feel like drinking myself into a stupor, howling German football slogans?

There will be a few games like that since they expanded the WC to 24 teams, there isn't the quality for it.

I had to look this up, it is one of the last SuperBowls I watched. You know it was a while ago when your defensive co-ordinator's sons are a head coach and a DC now. :D

Tangentially, William Perry played a season in Europe after he retired from the NFL. He weighed comfortably more than 400 lbs but was still usually in the right place because he saw things happening so much faster than everyone else. And that was him not taking it too seriously, I didn't meet him but I know a couple of guys who did and they said he was great company.

There's a name I've not seen for a long time. I vaguely recall him spending time a the London Queerhawks or whatever they were called.

What's most remarkable about him is that he's only 6'2" (~188 cm) or so. The guy was a freaking cannon ball with legs.

I googled him with some trepidation as I wasn't sure he was still alive. Given that he still weighs more than 400 lbs I suspect he is a heart attack waiting to happen.

Of course, a mere World Champion is no match for the U.S. boyz:

Germany 1 - 2 U.S.A. in a friendly in Cologne,

Afterwards Jürgen Klinsmann tried all he could not to have a broad grin plastered over his face all the time, but failed.

Says it all, doesn't it?

To be fair, preparation for the Gold Cup are in full swing for Team USA, and the Germans were whipped from their beaches&cocktails to play in a meaninglass friendly and an even meaninglesser European Cup qualifier against Gibraltar on Saturday. The winning goal was scored by a player who had just lost a fight against relegation in Germany - from second to third league! So we can console ourselves with the fact that the Germans didn't give it their all this time. Instead, let's just look back one year...:D

All perfectly valid excuses, but it will take more than that to get rid of Klinsmann's smile.
