We’re keeping ahead of third and fourth, we should be safe in second.

Played 168, won 80, drawn 45, lost 43.

I’m assuming you have the score there the wrong way around....

Have we enough games left to end up with over 50% wins?

Yes, 3 - 0 to us. We can end up at 50% wins, but we need to win most of the games that are left.

Almost a shame to contaminate this good weekend with my Hertha again.

Herha BSC 1 - 2 Fortuna Düsseldorf (remember how we talked about Hertha's Second-League Championship in '10 and '12? That was Düsseldorf in the relegation playoff in'11...)

OTOH, good news from the Debbn:

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2 - 1 SV Darmstadt 98

Played 170, won 81, drawn 45, lost 44.

I gently corrected that with my moderatorial sway.

I think we easily have enough games. Hertha and Fürth have 7 games left each, and Germany play in the Euro-Qualifiers once in June. If each game were won, that would bring the total to Played 185, Won 96 - easily more than 50 %. I am afraid though, it will not end that way. Maybe if you counted Scotland separately, but that wouldn't be the point, right?

Scotland play twice in qualification, but are they very likely to win twice? It's San Marino and Cyprus for you... How many match days are left in the Scottish Leagues?

Any Cup stuff left to play?

Otherwise, it is 27 competitive matches (7+7 in Germany, 5+5 in Scotland, 2 for Scotland in Euro qualifiers and one for Germany) left to play. That would be 197 in total, and to win more games than not, we'd have to accrue 99 wins, 18 more than we have. For example, Rangers and County would have to win four out of five each , Germany and Scotland two out of three (so you could afford not to win against Cyprus), and Hertha and Greuther four of seven each - these are pretty long odds, but it seems remotely possible.

I think we'll leave it at Hertha and Greuther both solidly in mediocritiy land, RCC winning the League and being promoted, Rangers aiming at a European spot, Germany solidly on their way to Euro 2020 qualifiacation and Scotland somehow stumbling along. I'm afraid we can't ask for more.

Well, that’s us played our game in hand.

Ross County 1 - 0 Dunfermline

Played 171, won 82, drawn 45, lost 44.

8 points clear, 4 games left. By my reckoning, we could be champions this weekend depending on how our and Dundee Utd’s results compare.

TSG Hoffenheim 2 - 0 Hertha BSC
VfL Bochum 3 - 2 SpVgg Greuther Fürth

Hertha losing straight, with no own chances at all. Greuther losing after being up a goal twice.
Both my teams seem determined to be washed down into relgetation land, would you believe it.

League is still ours to lose, and we can win it this Friday.

Played 174, won 82, drawn 46, lost 46.

Just learned that Hertha will terminate the managaer's (Pal Dardai, an old Hertha hand from way back, was promoted from a youth team comach position 6 years ago) contract by the end of the season. I think it's the right thing to do, the team has become very fuck-uppy even by Hertha's standards.

Atypically, the manager isn't chased off the premise by the bloodhounds. He'll have a time-out for a year, and will go back to his youth teams thereafter. There is still decency, recognition and just plain fair behaviour in pro fottball, whoda thunk.

Saw the 2nd half.... Our next game is on tv too, on Friday, but I’ll be at that one.

Right....

Ayr 1 - 3 Ross County

Played 175, won 83, drawn 46, lost 46.

I think we can fail to win the league if we lose our remaining games with Dundee Utd winning all of theirs and overcoming our +20 goal difference. But, I’m pretty confident we’re doing the double!

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 1 - 1 Union Berlin

Greuther linger in lower mediocritiy land and haven't secured non-relegation. This draw was a good one though, as Union have an eye on League One at the moment. Two Bundesliga teams from Berlin, that would be outrageous.

Hertha play tomorrow, but they still had non-relegation secured today by Stuttgart's defeat: 14 points clear, with four match days to go and tomorrow's game in hand. Even Hertha's fuckuppery takes us only so far.
