Still some hope of brushing up the count a bit with the upcoming European qualifiers...

We have a new head coach for Hertha - it's the farm team's coach, Ante Covic. Born to Croatioan parents in Berlin, he played for Hertha's first and second teams for quite some years. I think this reflexts Hertha's philosophy of bringing up their own material instead of trying to go big and challenge the CL places. Let's hope he can retain us in the Bundesliga and maybe have an eye on Europe. To start with, it would be nice if he could avoid the pummelings we routinely take towards the end of the season .

That wasn't him, that was the manager, Michael Preetz (in Germany, the coaching and the management are usually not in the same hand, so the coach runs around in sprortswear, and the manager is suit-and-tie). Do you think Boyata is worthless fuckstick because he is from Celtic, or did he qualify independently?

There’s no “v” in Gaelic, and the “v” sound is from “bh”. The spelling of Avoch is an Anglicisation of the Gaelic name Abhach. I’ve no idea why it’s pronounced och, when the Gaelic should be pronounced av-ach. That’s the Black Isle for you.

I learn something about Gaelic in a sports thread. I so love this place.

I couldn't understand why it was och, thanks.

True, but when push come to shove he'll let us down. He is forever tainted. When Kenny Miller was the only person scoring for Rangers a couple of seasons ago he was still a Dirty Hibbee.

Season has ended with a very good Cup Final that Bayern won 3 - 0 against Sticky Lemonade Leipzig. The victory was a bit too high-scoring, but well-deserved.

Union gave a gritty performance in Stuttgart on Thursday, 2 - 2. Let's see what they can do on Monday at alte Försterei. The matches are played by European Cup rules, so if nothing happens it's Eisern! Union! in the Bundesliga.

It's two more international match days in June, both Scotland and Germany play twice in the European Cup qualifiers, so we have four closing games for our count.
Saturday, 8 June
Scotland - Cyprus
Belorussia - Germany

Tuesday, 11 June
Belgium - Scotland. Good luck with that one
Germany Estonia.

With a bit of luck, and, say, three wins, we can get to 94 victories, just 4 short of 50%. Considering the shitty performances from Hertha and Greuther, that's not a bad season for Illuminati-R-Us Football Watchers Club United. RCC!

Union secured promotion to the Bundesliga yesterday with a gripping goalless draw at home to VfB Stuttgart! It was a typical snappy underdog performance with a good deal of luck in it. Don't expect miracles from them - they are earmarked for immediate re-relegation, probably with a record low number of points -, but you never know about underdogs, and we'll have two Berlin derbies next year. Yeah!

Liverpool beat Tottenham in the Final of the Champions League, two goals to nil. Those islanders always seem to need a German to get any thing done.

Just read that the Netherlands beat england 3 - 1 after extra time in that Nations-League thingy semifinal. Bravo, Kaaskoppen, especially since we beat you, at home in the EC qualification in November, so practically, we are the best team around, anywhere, logically. 'Schland!!!

The downside of this is that eiter the Dagos or the Kaaskoppen will now win something and either the DDD or some coastal brute from Fogland will lift a trophy under a confetti rain. I think we can all agree that while this is unfortunate, it is also completely insignificant and not worth mentioning since neither the Red-faced Krauts nor the Toothless Tartans are in it. Let us just pretend it never happened

I see we're on the same page here. OTOH, the reactions of the English Yellow Press are a feast all unto themselves, with their hysterical spitting and doom-shrieking. AND there is the slapstick element of the two winning goals for the Kaaskoppen.

But enough of that, Hooray for Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka.

It is odd that Van Dyke is the best player in the EPL but somehow useless for Nederland, or De Jong is moving to Barca for eleventy billion euros but isn't as good as someone who can't get a game for Man City. I'll see the goals at some point, and giggle. World Cup starts today, we actually have an interest for once. Scotland should also be at the Cricket WC but some terrible umpiring in a qualifier means we lost out.

Shouldn't we include the Women's Soccer World Cup results in our count? After all, since when aren't we supporters of German and Scottish football? Balls or boobs shouldn't matter, even if only people with all their teeth are playing.

We always treated the big tournaments as vestiges of last season. I think that's OK, the players will go on holiday when this is over.
