So we have to rely on Hertha and Greuther to re-set the balance? Good luck.

We’re ok for a couple of weeks as we’re on a winter break for three weeks. Which given the unpredictable nature of our climate will co-incide with the best of the winter weather.

Before I forget. Bundesliga is on the way again, and Hertha suffered a last minute defeat, with an own goal during extra time, cuz fuck. This week's fixture was slightly better, a home draw against Dortmund. 11th place...

VfB Stuttgart 1 - 0 Hertha BSC
Hertha BSC 1 - BVB 09 Dortmund

Played 108, won 41, drawn 24, lost 43.

Fürth will only start losing again next week, they have an inordinately long winter break down in League two.

Ours is back too, for the cup, so:

Kilmarnock 1 (dodgy last minute penalty) - 0 Ross County

Played 109, won 41, drawn 24, lost 44.

Brora Rangers, who are sitting 7th in the Highland League, are through the the last 16. They’ve not conceded a single goal in the competition so far. There will be at least one more Highland League team through, as there’s an all Highland League fixture still,to be played. Oh, and I’m obviously hoping Fraserburgh will turn over Heid’s lot (though they don’t stand a chance).

The other day, we signed a player on loan from Stoke. When our captain got injured last night, after 6 minutes, this guy made his debut. It took him about 35 minutes to score an own goal. If anything is more representative of our season than a new signing scoring an own goal on his debut, I'd like to hear it.

The red card given to our player for giving away this "penalty" has been rescinded. Pity you can't do that for dodgy refereeing decisions which result in your defeat. In theory, these things are supposed to balance out about equal across the length of a season, but they don't for us.

Would a video ref have made a difference in this case? I haven't seen the incident.

Do they ever make a difference? It was very blatantly not a penalty - even the Kilmarnock manager described it as "a decision that probably went in our favour". It's 20 seconds or so into the clip on this page if you want to see it. However, if ever there was a season with a need for the hackneyed expression about concentrating on the league to be right, it's this one!

Indeed, and if we'd won the replay (admittedly a long shot these days) then the way the draw panned out we'd be playing Brora Rangers in the next round, which would be awesome.

It's poor Brora heading south again as they're away - but they're used to that. I think only Wick Academy can give them a trip north.

I’ve loved having the countdown there. Fair kept me in the mood for it, so it has.

Cyndi and I watched a lot of curling 8 years ago, enjoyed the heck out of it. Then 4 years ago I couldn't find it on TV. Very disappointing.

I hope I can find it this time.

The countdown is to the start of the opening ceremonies on the U.S. "Prime Time" TV schedule. Your mileage may vary.

ETA:
I just learned that the opening ceremonies will be shown here live, at 5:00am. I have adjusted the countdown clock 13 hours earlier.

Somewhere I read that the curling starts the day before the ceremonies, so that may be true of other events as well?
