What sports teams do you support?

Yet another reason not to watch this is the shite camera work. I never want to see the crowd. I don’t want to see a close up of the ball in the in goal area with no idea who is chasing it. I would quite like to see who is where at lineouts and not just cut back to the throw. It would be good to see the defensive alignment at scrums and not the shaky refcam. And so on.
Get it up ye.

But the most important reason not to watch:

Scotland 6 - 13 England

Bonus point for Scotland. 60% of the matches so far have been decided by exactly seven points.

Yup. Reason number one for me not watching - it’s rugby, a sport for southern ponces.

Bakc to the Bundesliga, Hertha take on their relegation competitors, Mainz, at home in the Olympic Stadium. Excellent opportunity to get a handle on the relegation pressure and put some space between us and the rest.

Hertha BSC 1 - 3 FSV Mainz 05

See? that's us.

Played 126, won 63, drawn 23, lost 40

France 35 - 22 Italy, final.

Bonus point for France, none for Italy.

40% of the matches now played, so time for some analysis.

At the top of the pack, France and Ireland each have 9 table points. France have a slightly larger point spread, and also more tries, which are the tie-breaking criteria. So France leads, with Ireland close behind. These two teams still have to play each other; France also still face Wales and Scotland, and Ireland still face England and Italy.

Wales and England each have 5 table points, but Wales has a massively higher point differential, and also more tries, so they're in third, with England in fourth. Wales still face off against France, Scotland, and England; England still face off against Ireland, Wales, and Italy.

Scotland have two table points, and are in serious danger of elimination when play resumes in two weeks. They still face France, Wales, and Italy.

Finally, Italy has no table points, and is in even more serious danger of elimination in two weeks. They still face Ireland, England, and Scotland.

Fuck him. With a REALLY big fucky thing. I means, get this. He gets there in the early days of November. The investor's football brain in the board of directors. For old times' sake, always loved Hertha, so did daddy, all right. Three weeks later he's the manager, because the old one put us in 15th place. Klinsi makes 12 points off 9 games, puts us into thirteenth, big deal, after a € 78 million shopping spree in the winter transfer period, when everyone who's anyone is twice as expensive as in summer. He sells off old hands, the silver cutlery of the team, destroying what is left of a Hertha Mannschaft with a Hertha identity. And then he buggers off, informing, in that order, Twitter, his team, and his superiors. Whining he didn't get the trust he needed. If you want trust, then how about not getting pummeled at home by no 15 of the table after spending half the investor's investment on eight legs? How about not leaving a team in disarray days before a game away the worst team f the Liga, who also desperately need a win? Says he wants to concentrate on his board job. Fuck yeah, are we looking forward to that.

The guy is OVER, if you ask me. He explicitly gave out 15th as the season's minimum goal, and he could easily have achieved it, putting the task of developing an upper-half Bundesliga team in a real footie coach's hands. Be the guy who ate grass when his club called him to duty, and helped them scrape by in a difficult season. Now he leaves a smoking wreckage, and boy is nobody here keen on his continued involvement with Auld Auntie.

Get the fuck out of my city, ya bawbag.

Boy are we slipping. At least here on the continent, things are holding for the moment, although not really improving:

SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2 - 4 DSC Arminia Bielefeld

No disgrace in losing to the top team of the League, even if it does not exist.

SC Paderborn 07 1 - 2 Hertha BSC

Phew. If that had gone the other way, it would have been a strong signal for relegation.

Played 130, won 64, drawn 23, lost 44

Phew! No team except us in the complete lower half of the table won, and only Ausgsburg and Mainz managed draws. So the win gave us 9 pts. of brething space above the relegation playoff spot. Next up: Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Bremen, nos. 14, 16 and 17 of the table (15 and 18 were last week and yesterday!). Win those three, and it's almost done at 35 points.

But, well, Hertha's gonna Hertha.

Sleepy provincial capital gang1 - 1 Schbillvaahnichung Graither Fädd

Apparently, everyone thinks we should have won this (they are only 16th), so I am officially pissed. OTOH, we are in 6th at the moment, and after all the relegation-scraping of the past two seasons, I really see no reason to complain - except for The Count, which now stands at

Scotland and Italy face off in under four hours, Wales and France shortly after that. Ireland and England are tomorrow.

Scotland, Italy, Wales, and England are all in danger of elimination this weekend, but I think elimination of all four unlikely. The danger is most severe for Italy and Scotland.

Italy 0 - 17 Scotland, final. Neither team get a bonus point.

Italy are out, but they did go out fighting, trying to score up to the last moment, when it couldn’t possibly have any effect on the outcome of the match or tournament.

Scotland can still survive the weekend.

Wales/France up in 27 minutes.
