South Pacific Solidarity

Postby Heid the Ba » Fri Sep 28, 2007 10:08 am

I call upon all those with South Pacific ancestry, real or imagined*, to join me in supporting our noble Tongan brothersagainst the Forces of Evil in the Rugby World Cup this evening. Victory is unlikely, but would guarantee widespread hilarity and lasting humiliation. Go Sea Eagles!

In other news, the defending Olympic champions play RSA in what may be a pasting in a meaningless match;

and Our Brave Lads take on Italy in a quarter-final decider on saturday; one way or the other there is a fighting chance I will wake up on sunday with a crippling hangover and no recollection of whether I was celebrating or drowning my sorows. :D

*this includes you Lance.

All welcome for an internet Cipi Tao at 8pm BST tonight. Our lot are in red and seem to do little more than stride agressively towards their opponents pointing and shouting "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" in Tongan. Not for us the fancy hokey cokey like haka of effete Kiwis and decadent Samoans.

Sweet avatar Lance.

I kept expecting them to pull out clubs and stones.

We did well but got sloppy at a penalty and gifted them an interception try. That put the game out of reach. We won the bodycount though.

Scotland scraped past Italy in a very wet, very nervy game. We're up against Argentina in the quarter-final, they are finally playing to their potential so it could be home for us.

North Atlantic solidarity called for this weekend, Scotland are in a must win game with the scummy South Atlantic Argies. All those with Scottish ancestry, real or imagined, are invited to join me at 2000 BST on sunday in singing along to the dirge of a national anthem we have (Flower of Scotland) cheered up by the fact that the French always play it in polka time rather than the usual funereal pace.

No need for anti-English pettiness this week, I suspect the Diggers won't need my help.

May I recommend liberal application of the malt of your choice as it all goes tits up in the second half as we fumble the ball away.

Australia 10, England 12.

"World-class failures", a big English newspaper wrote about the Aussies.

In other news, New Zealand 18, France (the hosts) 20

And kick badly.

No idea what happened to Australia, I didn't watch that game.

My ten Euros on France to win the whole thing is looking better and better.

Yes, it was a game we could and should have won. It was a missed opportunity.
