KOS's rank title

Postby umop ap!sdn » Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:39 pm

Ìàñòåð

I've heard of IANAD before but I dunno what the O is for. :P

(Just joking around; it's obviously a character set compatibility issue; apparently the rank title wasn't done in Unicode so those of us viewing the board in Western character encoding see I-grave a-grave n-tilde o-grave a-ring d-thingy-with-a-line-through-the-tail.)

:(

Does it display correctly in the thread? It should look something like (although not exactly like) Mactep (the "t" and the "p" aren't quite right). Is there a way to fix it in the title?

It works for me if I set the character coding to "MacKyrillic" in Firefox. Anyone fumbled around with a Mac for programming the forum software?

In any event, it is Russian for "Master," which is a reference to a Bulgakov book...

I even see Ianaod (with accents) in the thread.

Мастер <--- does that look right? I'm not sure if the board lets us use unicode in our rank titles but it'd be worth a try.

ETA: Yes we can - I just set mine to いつもひとり (itsumo hitori in Hiragana).

That's really weird then. I followed the exact same procedure both times. The difference is, the first time, I had the board language set to Russian. That didn't work. Then I switched the board language to English, and did the exact same things. Then it worked...
