If that's a consolation: It's still September 19 back here.

And here we are (3 days behind schedule, but better late than never)

(Edit - interesting! This is my 1k milestone post and I decided to delete it for an experiment to see how it would affect my status, and sure enough I temporarily went back to being a paid debunker. )

Well, I'm not bragging: we've only got 2, and neither are operational.

Nope, I work at a button factory - I put buttons on a computer app all day long. ;)

And technically, the Minuteman Site isn't a park, either. 8)

For 3+ decades, South Dakota was home to several fields of ICBM silos (with real missiles). Due to treaties like SALT, when the Minuteman II were phased out, the South Dakota silos were decommissioned rather than upgraded to house the Minuteman IIIs. The particular silos I referenced were made into a museum site. The rest were imploded/demolished.

So, if NZ has 1 or fewer missile silos, we've got you beat. But we totally concede the sheep count to you.

Nup, NZ doesn't have any missile silos (so you win that contest). I wonder if those old missiles had tubes in their guidance systems?

 Doubt it, tubes. Transistors have been around at least since the early '50's, and the Pentagon had a substantial budget. More importantly, I doubt vacuume tubes could withstand the stress /heat of an ICBM launch.

For that, you need Major "King" Kong

Silly boy, vacuum tubes survived WW2 bomber flights, as parts of radios, radars, intercoms. Pretty rugged actually. ICBM launches involve vibration/shaking, and G-forces, but not so much impact, well when they hit, there is impact, but by then the tube circuit won;t matter.

There were vacuum tubes in some submarine torpedo circuits, as well as some bombs and early guided missiles.

Transistor invented in 1947, but really took over in the 1960s.

But you are right, the existing missile systems are not likely too heavily tubed up.

On the other hand, the FAA still has some vacuum tube systems in the air traffic control and radar stuff.
