Pretty spooky

For no apparent reason, while driving to work, I wondered about a local character I know superficially, Mike Price. He was one of those quiet, off to the side, above it all types, former SDS organizer. ALways wore jeans and a work shirt, and never without his motorcycle helmet. Hasn't come to mind in a long while, someone I'd say hi to and chat for a few moments, never someone I was close to.

I got to work, fired up my email and there were a half dozen email messages - Mike Price just passed away suddenly.

Pretty cosmic.

You mean 'pretty scary'

(Edit - I just had another scary thought - often unbidden thoughts of old girlyfriends randomly pop into my head, does that mean they are thinking of me?, or is it just an old habit?)

Well, just this morning we went to town. When we were ready to go, the car wouldn't start. An old fellow my wife knew came up and asked if he could help. My wife said, "Hi Ray, the starters been hanging up." He crawled under the car with a tire iron, banged on the starter, and it started. My wife thanked Ray for helping. Then he said, "I'm Tom, Ray died 10 years ago."

Or, how bout this. At work, we have a shipping clerk who signs our shipping bills of lading, despite the rather significant handicap of having died in April.

 Do they still pay him? If not, would he like to change employers?

Story, please. :glp-s62:

Not much of a story to tell. The warehouse shipping supervisor died of a heart attach back in April. The bills of lading are programed in the computer with his sig. on it, and no one has bothered to change the signature since.

I think we all have similar experiences, Enzo.

The scientific / analytical part of my brain says, “coincidence.”

You probably have thousands of different thoughts/observances/conversations in a day.

If long absent Bob Smith or meatloaf flashes through your mind, and later Bob Smith telephones you, or your wife serves meatloaf for dinner, you think “Wow. I was just thinking about …”

The other thousands of thoughts fade to black.

The other part of my brain that imagines there may be more …”in Heaven and Earth … Horatio” says, “Cosmic.”

Oh, I know it is coincidence, but of all things...

And that supervisor who works from the dead? Just sounds to me like a strong union.

He was part of management, so wasn't union. He's not getting paid, if he was union he probably would be.

I'm glad the approval process is so rigourous!

I was just thinking about someone whom I haven't seen since January, and guess who just emailed me?

@ Enzo - what made you think about the fajita guy?

Mactep used to pass a fajita cart as he cycled to work. When Mactep moved to the other side of the world, alas the fajita guy stayed behind.

Had the fajita guy followed him, Mactep would REALLY have something to worry about.

I wouldn't pass him on the bicycle, he just had the cart out in front of where I worked at the time.

I think the next to last day I worked there, I did ride a bike to his stand though.

SO he provided drive-through service.
