I still got it, but a moral question

Postby Enzo » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:39 am

It's thursday, or was, which means mexican buffet for dinner, and my weekly visit with the lovely waitress there. And it being the season, I gave her my little Xmas gift. A little stuffed Moose with a Santa hat, tucked in a little gift bag with a few pieces of chocolate.

She thought that was just wonderful, so much so she covered my check.

Guess I know how to please the ladies.

SO when a lady buys your dinner, do you still leave a tip for her? On the one hand, I hate to cheat the girl out of her tip, but on the other hand, she did pay the tab. Does a tip say the wrong thing?

Well, I left a tip anyway. I expect it will turn out OK even if the wrong choice of actions.

Where was all my charm 40 years ago, when I needed it?

Moral codes are tricky things, aren't they?

Some people are in the enviable position of having moral certainty, because an all-powerful and all-knowing deity told them what is and is not moral. Many others reject the deity, but keep the moral certainty :P

Anyway, I would like to think I would have done as you did. Besides, she might need that tip when the boss finds out she's been comp'ing you :P

Around here, 10% is just included in the bill.

Yeah, tip the waitress.

Cyndi and I had a meal comped by the owner of a place we frequent a few days ago so I left a fat tip.

Another place we used to frequent had half-price wings on Thursdays. I tipped the bill on what it shgould have been before the discount and several times had the waitresses tell me I over tipped. I had to explain to them that, just because the place was discounting the meal doesn't mean the tip should be discounted. They understood my logic and then fought over us any time we came in after that.

Always tip well, with very few exceptions.
Is there such a thing?

The wife and I dine out often, and we like to use coupons, loyaly cards, and other discounts. But we always tip based upon "woulda been" amounts. That's a given.

I always tip at restaurants, but its never got me out of paying for the meal. You must be doing something right Enzo.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.
