Horror Film

Postby Lianachan » Mon Jan 09, 2012 4:06 pm

I see that new film about Thatcher has been classified as "unsuitable for miners".

(I couldn't see an existing place to shoe-horn in that, admittedly rather poor, joke - sorry!)

Apologies, it's unlikely that many non-UK people would get that.

Here is the context:

Thatcher broke the power of the unions, particularly the National Union of Mineworkers. Films in the UK which are for adults only are "unsuitable for minors" ie children.

And I have just sucked all the humour out of the pun by explaining it . . .

Apologies if I have misunderstood your emoticon.

My seemingly blank post should have words in it, including a link to an article about the miners strike. Weird!

I wondered about that but thought it was some anti-Thatcher performance piece. :D

Blank for me too, I have no idea why. I can see the text by hitting the "quote" button.

I got it, and it was a brae bit o' humour.

We did and do get the news, y'know, even over here in the colonies.

My art isn't nearly as subtle as that. I refer the gentleman to the opening post, as evidence.

Me too. All a touch strange. I wonder if it's somehow related to the ' that screws up the link.

I fixed it. It was the link but I don't know why it behaved like that.

Weird.

Oh, I get the BBC on cable here.

I was, as usual, just bemused why people think puns are funny.
