Streetview Simulacra

Postby Lianachan » Sun Dec 02, 2012 1:41 am

Couple of cool simulacra from the Highlands.

This sideways looking head in the rocks is pretty well known locally, as it's visible from the major road south to Heidland. This is one I knew about from Real Life, and went looking for in streetview. It's much clearer in reality than in that picture.

This ghostly figure, though, is one I spotted in streetview first.

Anybody got any examples from their parts of the world?

I like this, too. It's not a simulacrum, but I thought it was pretty funny. Spotted that one while scouting out access to an archaeological site I wanted to visit.

To my eyes at least, it works best if zoomed out two levels from what you have above. However, if that were the initial view, it might be hard to locate. So maybe best to leave it as is.

What is it? Rock? Tree stump? Actual person out in the field?

I've always wondered what these strange formations are.

1) Yup, maximum zoom for ease of identification.

2) I've never been to look, but from a wee bit along the road it looks like a tree stump. I really should go and look.

3) Isn't that a driving school?

The second one looks like a tree to me.

The third one is simply a small Vauxhall(?) emerging from hibernation.

I didn't make it quite as far north as this at the weekend, only to Kingussie. A nice wee town, if one overlooked by the barracks of the oppressor.

Indeed. This is what they looked like before they were burned down by the Forces of Good.

Nearby is the battle site for probably the most important battle in Scottish history, which almost nobody has heard of.

A very nice part of the world.

I hadn't realised that The Unknown Battle is now thought to have taken place nearby or I would have had a look.

The A9 (Scotland's Killer road/Road of Death) was actually surprisingly placid and mellow.

Aye, ol' Wolfy's effectively relocated the seat of Pictish power much further north.

It often is. I've been up and down it dozens (hundreds?) of times without incident. Tourist season is the worst, as they tend to meander about the road because they're gawping out of the windows at the nice scenery.

I confirmed this by in-person inspection on Saturday.
