I could handle it if everyone just used their own convention. But sometimes people helpfully decide to cater to their audience, the problem being, you can't tell whether they have done this or not.

I know someone who was almost denied entry to the US because the immigration official refused to believe that the date format on her passport was dd-mm-yyyy. I can understand that the check-out person at Wal-mart wouldn't know this, but immigration officials? I'd think they would see 200 a day.

Are you kidding? It'd be the Y2K bug all over again! Nuclear holocaust, epidemic blackouts (at least in the US), everyone's bank accounts disappearing, and we started using our bomb shelter as a root cellar and for storage, and I really don't want to have to clean it out.
