Hey tubes, time to say it for once. I admire your determination and will to get this thing done, and I wish you the best for your long days in the cubbyhole.

And now I am going to play soccer with my boy.

Sunday 27 July. Final lurch toward the finish of the research method (3rd) draft chapter. Maybe I'll catch the commonwealth games highlights on TV tonight when I get home

Yay! 3rd draft chapter submitted for supervisors comments at 1:11pm Sun 27 July. I'm taking the rest of this afternoon off - might catch the CW games highlights after all.

Since handing in my draft 3rd chapter (which will be the 4th chapter when the introduction is added in front later), I have gone back and done a 2nd version. Now I am contemplating a 3rd version. At home today instead of in the cubby hole. Sun is shinning outside. Dishes are done. Washing is hanging on the line. House is tidy. Email's checked. Bill payments made. Eaten breakfast and lunch. :D/

Back in the cubby hole again - I've 92.8% completed coding on one of my three district scheme case studies - got to catch up with my supervisor this afternoon.

Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but for some context for interested readers the thesis title is: "‘Top-down’ and ‘bottom up’ influences on renewable energy development: district plans and the regulation of wind farms in New Zealand". For the research part I'm looking at 3 different sets of district scheme provisions for wind farms, in the context of NZ's multi-level governance system for natural and physical resource allocation (not that it would interest most people I imagine).

The cracks on the wall look the same I think.

And they will, right up until they fail catastrophically. Think of them like faults and their failure like an earthquake. They will withstand the stress until they can't anymore.

Been a teeny while since my last entry. Never fear - academia prevails ;-)

"About" the same? So not EXACTLY the same? Potentially WORSE?

Aksala, acutally.

I took the day off work today, and stayed home writing a heap of stuff on my draft 4th (results) chapter, which alone is up to about 70 pages and over 30,000 words. (The whole seven chapters of the thesis is supposed to be limited to 45,000 words tops. I may have to get a dispensation or something.)

Back in the cubby hole. Took a different day off this week. Seeing my supervisor in 2 and a bit hours - hopefully will sort out a few issues.

There was a 5.5 mag quake here about an hour ago, although it was far down (113km) and it didn't seem to make the cracks any bigger AFAICT (which is Irish for 'a faict'). To the alarm of some of my cell block mates I've started marking and dating the cracks (kind of like a 'how tall where you when?' thingy)

Traditionally surveyors n the UK use a "17p tell tale"*, by sticking a postage stamp across the crack and seeing how it is affected with time. Your postage may vary.

* postage is far more than that now, but the term remains.
