You know, reading something of this length can be a large effort. perhaps including a cartoon every few pages, and maybe a recipe here and there would make it easier to get through. Just a thought.

That's a GREAT idea Enzo. Then maybe somewhere in the middle, one of those images that says "stare at the pretty girl" that shows some babe, then after a few seconds it screams and turns into a scary face.

Hmmm... I could do with a cartoon of a whole lot of people, but I can't be bothered drawing. I wonder where I can get a cartoon rendering of someone's face that I can just re-paste in there multiple times? A jovial face would do. Something nondescript yet at the same time familiar, a guy with a beard probably...

Well I think I finally finished it. 2 years, 37,500 words, 235 pages including 15 pages of references and 113 pages of appendices later.

I'm submitting it tomorrow 3 days ahead of schedule. Then I'm having the rest of the week off.

If the powers at Victoria University accept it, I'll post a pdf version for those in Llamaland for whom sleeping pills won't work.

I was advised yesterday that the University has just found some external examiners to assess my thesis, and that they should have comments back to me by the end of April (or so).

Well there was an email from the university last night saying that my thesis had been accepted with minor modifications and there were two examiner's reports, one of which (the internal examiner) graded it quite highly ('A') and had the suggested minor amendments; the other of which (the external examiner) implied that it wasn't good enough for what they would have expected if it had been done at their university and somewhat irked that I hadn't cited works by them and their colleagues, along with generic suggestions included about everything that needed to be done before it was resubmitted. So there's two polar opposite assessments, and we'll see where it ends up. At worst, I shall have to go back to the drawing board I guess. I'm going to see my supervisor next week to hatch some sort of a plan of action, or reaction.

Ah well! - off to band practice - Surf Daddies are gigging at pre-function cocktail dinner at a fancy venue in the Te Papa Museum in Wellington as part of a 'Hang 10 for Health' conference next Friday, and we're having a run-through to polish the setlist. Surf Music in a Museum! Hah!

That sounds like academic petulance at its worst, that you are caught between two examiners who don't get on. Hopefully common sense prevails.

Don't make an exhibition of yourselves . . .

Just sprinkle it with citations of the other examiner's group, say how right they are and see where that gets you. Otherwise, what Heid said.

Well I met with my supervisor yesterday - his advice was only do minor amendments, and don't worry about adding the citations preferred by the external examiner, as she apparently didn't read the brief. So I've finished all the minor amendments, and I'm giving the tracked-change minor amendments version back to my supervisor later today for final tick-off, then its off to the publisher!
