Looking for clearance

Postby Enzo » Sat Apr 29, 2017 5:19 am

I love shopping in post-holiday periods. The stores blow out all the remaining holiday stuff at clearance prices. SO the day after Easter, I stock up on half price chocolate. Today at the store, the small remaining inventory was 90% off. The selection is now small. Lots of Peeps still. Lots of easter baskets. But at 90% off, a $15 basket is only $1.50.

Aside from regular woven wood strip baskets, they also have molded ones as licensed characters. SO I scored a plastic Yoda head basket for 60 cents.

The little plastic hollow eggs you can put little treats into are also now cheap. 8-10-12 packs for 12-12 cents. But they also sell eggs already stuffed with candy or whatever. Jellybeans. I found a good sized one full of jelly beans. Not just any jelly beans, but organic jelly beans. And not just organic, but CAGE FREE jelly beans. I imagine happy jellies roaming free able to lay beans freely in the open air.

Now most jelly beans are sold mixed in bags of bulk beans. But they also sell large bags of smaller individual portions of beans. Little packets. I found one brand of Prayer beans. A chart on the little packet explains the colors. Black one were SIN, and the red ones were the BLOOD of Christ. The other colors were equally as, well, colorfully described. Seemed worth a dollar for a big bag of those.

I just broke into the organic jelly beans. Not only are they organic, but the label says "Black Forest Organic", perhaps a special Teutonic organismic thing. "Added for color" were juices of radish, black currant, pumpkin, carrot. Gluten and fat free.

There were only two raspberry, I saved them for wring, and she proclaimed they tasted like raspberry. The lemon and orange tasted pretty good. The "pineapple" well, I sure never would have guessed that was the flavor. Cherry and strawberry tasted like sweet, but not sure what.

Better than the prayer beans, god knows.

I had no idea there was such a range of sugary bullshit. Slightly disappointed that their "Tangy Tarts" don't seem to be anything to do with Mary Magdalene, or fallen women of negotiable virtue.

Oh yeah, there is tons of that stuff. Oriental Trading Company has entire catalogs of religious junk.

Still one of my favorites was the little dinner mint packages with a verse on each wrapper, they were called "Testamints".

I bought the organic beans mainly because it said on the label, "Cage Free". Whatever on earth that could mean in the context of jelly beans.

"Testamints" is a work of genius, clearly.

Yeah, not necessarily a religious genius, but a genius.
