To verb or not to verb.

Postby Enzo » Wed May 17, 2017 5:00 am

We love to turn nouns into verbs here. So why not make verb a verb.

One of your cats likes to play with things by walking just past them, and then kicking them with her hind claws. One of her favorite toys is a sponge rubber George W Bush toy. And she is particularly fond of walking over him and kicking him with her hind legs. So we call that "Georging". "Kitty just Georged that ball of paper." We verbed "George".

One toy we have is a fabric football with puppy footprints all over it - a doggie toy. But the kitties like it too. Wring just walked through the apartment, stepped over the football, then kicked it backwards with her foot. She Georged it!

She Georged the football right past kitty's nose. Kitty spends a lot of time in an empty cardboard box from a room fan we recently got. There are holes in the lid she can bat at the othr cat through.

I've been doing exactly the same thing for years! Good to know I'm not the only one. We are three!

Example:

hutchence

verb
past tense: hutchenced; past participle: hutchenced

the action of accidentally killing oneself by masturbation
"Christ! He's only gone and hutchenced himself!"
synonyms: carradine, milligan

So, hutchencing would be deliberate, where carridining would be accidental?

I recall reading, in my youth, a Harry Harrison novel with chapters called "Victory Wrenched From The Salivating Jaws of Defeat" and then, much later, "Defeat Wrenched From The Salivating Jaws of Victory". The latter expression in particular lodged in my impressionable young mind.

Wouldn't that have to be to hertha, without the capital h? But anyway, yeah, that's very fitting.

When one of Germany's favourite intellectuals (among other things, he wrote the best evah translation of Winnie the Pooh) was asked what he liked to do most, he answered, "mit klugen Leuten dummes Zeug reden" (to talk pish tosh with smart people). I suggest, in honour of this place, we call that "to llama".
