I have that in rubber duck form - I'd have the group of them sitting at my desk, often people just said "cute ducks" but every now and then, some one would do a double take and realize what I'd done and burst out laughing.

More or less. I was a year old in 1978, and I doubt I even heard the song until several years later. I was just testing the emoji, though, because I've been to karaoke.

I was turning ten an d I was COMPLERTELY unaware of the flaunting of gayness in the video. I was also completely unaware that something like "gay" existed. Or, come to think of it, that sex existed. Maybe it was easier that way.

I was six when the record came out, so to speak, but it’s been hard to avoid!

My cousin, 6 years older than I was a fan, nd he is totally ungay. It was extremely hard to avoid in his company.

I just read the Wikipedia article. Did aynone here know that they still exist and are still touring, three to four months a year?

And did anyone know they perpetrated this atrocity:

you know, it's funny - those videos on You Tube all show an Army guy as one of the Village, not the sailor that my memory says is there. huh.

That's what I thought too, probably confusion due to their other hit, "In the Navy" ?

The Wikipedia Article on them shows they've had a lot of people in and out of the group. It doesn't say, but I expect that brought at least a few character changes as well. A Google Image Search shows various groupings, some with a soldier and some with a sailor.

I saw them perform live a few days ago. It was so bad it was embarrassing.

Part of this wasn't their fault - the venue (a sports stadium) had them in a place where they were barely visible, and the best way to see them was on the big display screens. The acoustics were terrible, which shouldn't have been the case, because they routinely played other recorded music at other times during the sporting event that sounded just fine. And the lead, Victor Willis (the policeman) generally had this worn out, "I can't believe I'm 66 years old and I still have to do this", feel about him.

"I can't believe I'm 66 years old and I still have to do this"

BAck in 1973 I encountered Gary US Bonds at a concert. He needed a sound engineer for the show and I was willing, so I handled his sound for the gig. As he was about to take the stage I was chatting with him, he in his white head to toe Super-Fly getup I recalled listening to his music in years past. (over a decade earlier) He looked at me and said, "It's just a job, kid, it's just a job."
