Oh the huge mentee

SO I am mentoring a young man in the fine and arcane knowledge of electronics for show biz, using my considerable skill and experience in the field. I would say I was tutoring him, but I think that implies assisting for a class elsewhere. Mentoring is just me teaching directly, nest pah?

SO if he would have been a tutee, does that make him a mentee?

"Student" just sounds so... ordinary.

I generally use the Socratic method, because at first it was all Greek to him. Then he has a eureka moment and...

Oh I cannot go on.

I ment well.

I've seen the word mentee used, but apprentice sounds fine to me.

Enzo, thank you for mentoring many mentees over the years - including yours truly.

Me too. You are always going way above and beyond the call Enzo.
I hope I never get de-mented.

I like to mix ordinary and extraordinary titles. For example, there can be "Dark Lord", "Assistant Dark Lord", "Executive Dark Lord", and "para-Dark Lord".

Reminds me of the distinction between butter and buttee.

It's clear where "Assistant Dark Lord" and "para-Dark Lord" fall in the hierarchy but I'm less clear on how "Dark Lord" and "Executive Dark Lord" rank. Is the Executive position superior, or more of an emeritus position?

I think that needs to be determined on the field of battle.

Okay, then what are the criteria for attaining each of the ranks?

Wouldn't dark lord be the guy, and executive dark lord would be the fellow hired to do the actual work. Like George Lucas is producer, but the executive producer is the real one and who knows who he is.

Today's LA Times crossword puzzle had the clue "protege", and the answer was...

Mentee.
