I can't even find it cool. Thrill-seeking is all fine and dandy, but I'd know a hundred different venues where he could put his guts to use and help other people instead of just being visible on the internet.

Remember all the mountain climbing and Red Bull commercial wingsuie-parachute-whatever nutjobs who died? They play videos of them saying "I am aware of the risk, and I take no risks I can't calculate", then they show a blurry vdeo ióf the incident and then a spectacular-looking girlfrined in tears, preferably with a candle. And that ends the profit cain. Onto the Next Cool Boy doing incredible things.

If you want to do soemthing extraordinay and get some thrill, try driving a cache of supplies to a Médicins sans Frontières hospital in Mali or something.

I don't find it cool either. As you say, there are more worthwhile ways to take great risks.

Our local paper did a big full page story about some BASE jumpers, who broke into a tall broadcasting antenna and scaled it, to parachute off the top. They were all full of gushing praise. I called the editor and suggested he had just put a full page up praising people who BROKE INTO a facility, breaking a lock, and trespassing. Just for fun.

The only part I like is that he got over his fear of heights. I wish I could. It used to be no big deal for me but now I have issues even going out and looking over a 5th floor balcony. Or getting anywhere near full length glass in high rises.

I used to love heights until I fell off a hill and got a free helicopter ride from the coastguard. Bit nervous of them now.

I guess I'm in the minority, these guys are feckin' awesome.

I've seen the video of the Shanghai Tower, the second highest building in the world right now (after the Burj Khalifa). I remember when the Jin Mao building was the tallest building in PuDong, then they built the Bottle Opener next to it, and now the Shanghai Tower. When they're up on the Shanghai Tower, there's a shot where they're looking down, at the Jin Mao building and the Bottle Opener (both taller than the Empire State Building) poking up through the clouds, way down beneath them. Unbelievable.

This is what churned my belly 8 years ygo, before the crazy stunts became fashionable. AND it shows you can do meaningful things and still have your viewers joyfully shrieking with angstlust :D .
