Finding WW2 locations

Postby Lianachan » Tue Feb 20, 2018 11:59 am

Been amusing myself with this for a few mins, thought it might be of interest. It's interesting trying to find where these old photos were taken and what the areas look like today.

Should there be a link?

The second one looks the same it is the Vittorio Emanuelle in central Rome, the other two look Italian but I don’t recognise either. The third one will be one of the river crossings but I don’t know which one.

Sort of relatedly I’m in a bar in the Italian Alps drinking a beer.

Edit: Ah, click on the photos. The first time I did nothing happened so I thought they were simply the old photos.
Get it up ye.

Italian Alps drinking a beer? I'm very jealous indeed. I'm in my office.

Here's another:

An expression of WWII tojophobia at my local beach

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station.

If you are seeing an apparent paradox, that means you are missing something.

Excellent, and bonus points for "tojophobia".

We have lots of WW2 stuff around my neck of the woods.

There is also a surprising amount in Fife, including the various islands defending Rosyth which I pass on my commute.

I will award further bonus points for tojophobia.

I'm at work, a building which sits on the former grounds housing the Army Radio Technical Training School. After the base was decommissioned, most of the buildings were sold and moved, and the area became a industrial/warehouse district. It's possible that a couple of the buildings around here are from the school, but for the most part, they were poor quality buildings, built in a massive rush over months. If anything of them has survived through today, they'd mostly be used as storage sheds or garages.
