Ah, maybe not...

SO I am all about the joke. No, really. I like to find them in daily life. Like in a busy restaurant, the waitress comes to the table and says "Sorry about the wait." And I grab my belly and say "Oh, me too, but I am working on it."

Well at retail stores, I usually use a credit card. IN most you insert the card in the reader, and it says "DO NOT REMOVE CARD" for a moment or two. Then it approves and asks if I want a receipt or something. SOme have a page that says "wait for cashier". SO I looked at her and said "So when do you get off tonight?" Today, the store clerk stood back a little and asked "Why do you want to know?" Oh.... "Well it said 'wait for cashier' and I wanted to know how long a wait I had.' But I think she was pretty creeped out. SO maybe I'll retire that joke.

Too bad, I kinda liked it.

That sucks! I hate it when a joke crashes and burns like that.

I've had one fail like that a few times too. Imagine you're passing someone in a tight aisle in the market and you excuse yourself to get by another person. It's common around here for the response to "excuse me" to be "you're fine". So when someone tells me "you're fine" I reply with "well thanks! you're kind of cute yourself." Sometimes it doesn't go over well.

I had a broken arm a while ago. This was around the time United Airlines beat the crap out of that Vietnamese guy, which definitely made big news here.

So, I walked up to the check-in counter with my arm in a sling, and the check-in person asked, what happened? So I said, well, I was flying on United Airlines . . .

No reaction at all. She just sat there looking at me, waiting for me to continue the story.

So I told her what actually happened, then we went through the whole check-in process, which in this case included her taking a copy of my doctor's letter, and running off somewhere to make a copy of it.

Eventually, she handed me everything, passport, boarding passes, etc., and then looked at me, and asked, "so you were on United Airlines?"

The agent at the next check-in desk just about fell out of his chair laughing.

I always say "Oh, but I can't possibly be fine, my husband says I'm a pain in the ass". they then assure me he's wrong.
