The pictures are from 2004, so maybe the subs have been moved. But, one of the photos has a sign that reads "Нерпичья", or "Nerpichya", which leads me to here:

From the Wikipedia page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapadnaya ... naval_base), it seems there are four naval facilities on the "River Western Face", although I can't identify which is which from Google. For some reason I can't quite work out, Street View doesn't work inside a Russian naval base. I'm having trouble locating the building shown in the photos.

Are they for sale? Maybe IRU needs one.

Find out why they were decommissioned first.

Also, the Wikipedia page I linked mentions “widespread radioactive waste deposits”. Not clear if the subs are part of that or not.

I'll be on the quayside waving you off, I wouldn't go out in one of them even when it was maintained. Hang on, g-one used to be on the Oggin, he could be captain.

Safety concerns, or claustrophobia?

A bit of both.

Edit: I would be fine in it while it was moored in ten feet of water, otherwise I would not be happy.

I do not think I would last more than a few minutes in the old diesel subs, based on what I saw at the museum on the south side of Chicago - I think Llance might be familiar with that one.

The newer, larger ones - I'm not sure.

I do have claustrophobic dreams about aeroplanes, waking up in a cold sweat sometimes. Which is odd, because I don't have this problem on actual aeroplanes.

In the very first photo in the linked article - what are those things alongside the dock, in front of the subs?

Are they some floating structures that could be moved away, or are they part of the dock?

I don't see them in the satellite photo of the naval base I linked - that's in addition to the buildings not seeming quite right.

But the photo was 2004, I suppose things could change in 16 years.

No thanks Heid :) . Though I'm not sure it would be so much worse than the debacle that is the Victoria class we procured from the Brits. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upholder/ ... cquisition)

Mactep, apparently all forms of clothing are burnt/disposed of after diesel sub deployments. Aside from the cramped quarters, I would not be able to handle the fumes.
